No TV Income?
Point taken, but nowhere near as much of that during Covid because Sky and BT arranged a knockdown price because they were showing all Premier League games , and still large losses were incurred, to the point that there was even talk of the Club going under until ENIC arranged £250 million of long term loans to pay back short term £150 million government funding and other loans, making the debt more manageable.
You might recall Harry Kane and Manchester City being pretty sure he would have to be sold for a knockdown price to City for that very reason. When they found out they would have to pay full whack they retreated, much to the chagrin of Harry "I'll decide my future" Kane.

Out of curiosity, where do you draw the line in the sand morally?

What kind of owner would you accept to get rid of ENIC/Levy?

What kind of owner would you accept to win trophies?

I’ve been considering owners of ever-decreasing morality to try and test where my line is drawn.

I’ve got as far as Harold Shipman so far. Threshold still not reached.

Tony Blair next.

No, because only Tottenham had such a large debt to service because of the stadium cost.
I may be wrong, but IIRC to service the debt costs around 25M per year. The new stadium has probably helped reduce the gap between us and the big boys financially, but we still cannot (refuse to) compete by the looks of it.

The problem is there are still plenty of people happy with the current owners

The l"ook where we were before they came in" crowd

They are fine with us joining the the top 6 without trying to iwin anything

Not knowing that the rest of the top six are laughing at us

Like someone hanging around waiting for crumps at a buffet table
We got a lot of plaudits for the football under Poch - and rightly so but the caveat was always "but they don't win anything*.

A better manager than poch would have won something with that squad

It took Poch’s reign and relative success to put us in a position to attain that better manager

The current board just haven’t backed any of them (including Poch) unconditionally when it’s come to the crunch

hopefully a change of ownership or injection by a minority stakeholder will change that

I don't really draw a moral line in the sand when it comes to such things that I have no control over.
There's enough in my life to get angry, anxious, stressed and feel useless about, without adding football to that list.

Maybe with some luck.

But I believe Poch got the maximum he could with the resources he had.
we had the best defence in the league in 2016-17....we just always collapsed at key moments

I think a manager who "knew how to win" and had the experience - a Jose or Conte - would have got them over the line, even if just in a cup

Also let’s take a better manager, say Klopp.

Klopp wouldn’t have come to us after AVB/Sherwood, it was only after Poch elevated the club that the likes Jose and Conte and maybe even someone like Klopp became/becomes an option.

And fired Jose just before a cup final. To make sure we had no chance.

He did an incredible job, no question, but I still think we should have won something. What sticks in my mind was the FA Cup semi-final loss to United in 2018. We were by far the better team going into that match, but Mourinho just got the better of Poch on that occasion.

I'm not sure that Jose could have achieved what Pochettino did in terms of building us into that force (almost certainly not, with those resources), but once we were there I do think a manager like Mourinho would have taken us over the line with a cup. Just my opinion. Ironic and absolutely idiotic that we would go on to hire Jose, and fire him the week before a cup final....

Hold on. You’re telling me Spurs and football doesn’t get you angry, anxious, stressed and feeling useless..? ?

Only on a superficial level.
I actually enjoy the escapism it provides, whether good or bad.
Which is why I'll stick with Spurs no matter who owns us.

Jose’s Cup record with Spurs:

FA Cup 19/20: 2 replays, eliminated
19/20 CL: eliminated first knockout stage

20/21 Europa: eliminated round of 16
FA cup: eliminated 5th round
League cup:
Forfeit over Leyton Orient
Pens over Chelsea
Beat Stoke
Beat Brentford

Jose sacked, lost to Man City in final.

Jose did not have a stellar record in the cups while at Spurs. His sacking is not why we lost to City.

Just a little reminder. I know it's in the dim and distant past for many, but the club also had well over a season with little or no income because of the Covid debacle. That's not just no increase. It's no income, but operating costs still had to be paid. This meant very large losses. So there's some catching up to do before we see the benefits of the stadium come into play.
I’d forgotten how that only affected Spurs.

Arsenal have spent £200m+ in each of the last 2 selummer windows but we are richer than them.

They’ve bought another player this window
