The amount of times I've seen Paulinho sky the ball in a great position. That end product?

Yeah and the rest where he's contributed to putting the ball in the back of the net or created an chance for someone which is more than what Dembele offers, this is the reality I'm afraid.

Dembele is great at receiving the ball, beating a man and opening up the field. His work rate is good (I've already said how usually he's everywhere working two shifts covering Paulinho, though that's just my view). Defensively he's superb. He's a great outlet. Further forward he has the ability to beat a man on the edge of their box and prod the ball forward which he has done a few times this season for it to come to nothing.

Like Steve said, though, he needs to get himself sorted. He started brilliantly with us but hasn't been the same since he got that hip injury.

Dembele is a strange one, though, I admit. He's a striker that's been converted into a centre mid. If we find a manager that knows what to do with him (and I don't mean that in a negative way) then we can have some player on our hands. I still stand by my assertion that he has got goals in him.
Then it all falls apart from him.
If he needs surgery then get it done.
He dosent get in my line up, at he moment i wouldnt pick Paul either.
But if it was a choice between Paul and Dembele to partner Sandro or Capoue, Paul would get in.
Thats just my opinion of course.

Well I would opt for Dembo which is of course my opinion :)

I think we are in agreement when it comes to playing Holtby next to Sandro, though.

Sorry but you're ignoring the fact Dembele plays on average more key passes than Paulinho does. Paulinho only has 3 goals and 1 (or two, depending on the website) more assists than him while playing further forward.

My original post said 3 goals and 1 assist *more* than Dembele who has 1 goal and 1 assist. I'm going by whoscored stats of Paulinho having 4 goals and 2 assists.

Paulinho has 6 goals and 2 assists in all competitions.

Dembele has 2 goals and 1 assist in all comps and has started many more games than paulinho

I used to like mousa last season but I realise even when fully fit he's just a bigger version of Aaron Lennon. Occasionally looks dangerous on the ball but really does nothing
And he is no where near good enough defensively compared to Sandro or capoue so what's the point in him.

Hopefully its all about intelligent passers like holtby and eriksen next season

only saw you say he had, didnt see the original post

As for key passes, on average its 0.4 key passes a game different. |Not a huge diffrent, and doesnt say what a key pass is.

Dembele should be more productive than he is, and i wouldnt write off Paulinho who has been wasteful in front of goals just yet.

What does key pass mean?

Dembele has his moments going forward but they are often too few and far between, he lacks any sort of consistency in his game to be able to be deployed in a more offensive role. His shooting has a lot to be desired, often wayward, he holds onto the ball for too long and isn't dynamic enough when he's near the opponent's box, just an incredibly frustrating player. Paulinho has already proved that he has a knack of goal scoring and getting into the correct positions whilst creating chances for himself and others, shouldn't really need debating this.

My Saints fan step Daughter and her BF got back from the Lane last night very disgruntled, saying they outplayed us for 90 mins and it was only mistakes that let us win the game, pointed out without defensive howlers they would not have scored 2 goals, and they played superbly for 30 mins but once our boy scored we had them on the back foot for the majority of the next 70. Also pointed out that while they play impressive football they dont have an answer when the game goes against them, they nearly let Norwich back in when they were 3-0 odd up or whatever it was last week. That didnt matter and they *let* us back into the game, that comment really pissed me off, we didnt play well and we deserved to be behind but the character shown there and the fact we did come from 2-0 says alot as far as im concerned.

I'm delighted with win, but the whole game smacked of accident rather than design... for both teams.

I'm sure it's been said over and over and over and over and over and over on here, but Naughton needs putting out to pasture... he's been conning everyone at this club into thinking he's a footballer for far too long. And the same could be said for their equally calamitous mistakes.

Jokes abound in that game. Good finish from Gylfi tho (y)

I'd have Paulinho in the team ahead of Dembele every single day of the week.

Also, I like Southampton as team a lot at the moment. Some really good likeable players and manager.

I have to say that although Dembele is very strong on the ball and can shrug his man off quite easily, for me he doesn't move it around quickley enough. I think he is the reason we have slow starts, yes we need players who can beat their man with the ball, but we need players who can move it on quicker than we have been doing, and as for the slow tippy tappy at the back .... spare me!

All that said it's my birthday today and to come back from 2 down to win in the last minute was just about the best present I could have had. It means I am smiley today instead of being a miserable old git!

Saw Kyle Walker wandering through the north stand before crossing the pitch. That's about all I saw since the sun was constantly int eyes. Thought Burnley looked good mind.

Dembele has been absolute piss this season. He has all the tools to be lethal, but he'll hold off 2 players, skip past another then go full retard and either give the ball away, or bottle it and play a ridiculously easy sideways/backwards/pass out wide.

If he had a killer instinct, a Holtby/Sig/Eriksen like pass in him he'd be fantastic. Because he don't, I still feel as though we need someone in the middle this summer to partner Sandro. None of our midfielders are passers akin to Carrick and Modric and I feel we lack this.
