I have to be honest any talk about getting player x or y in to solve positional problems is a moot point for now. We clearly are not buying players that would improve the team because that would require quite heavy spending and we simply can't because we don't have the funds, whether that be for Stadium funding or because ENIC expected a bid for the club to materialise. What we have now in terms of players is pretty much the hand we have been dealt with for this season, and imo Jan window will be much the same as the summer one, unless Cain Hoy do indeed buy us and want to show immediate ambition, and imo they will have to. The money that has been available for players has been poorly invested last season. We are now a club that has to sell to buy, that much is clearly evident.

We have a game or two like that every season, don't we? This was obviously really disappointing, but Man Utd and Liverpool are being just as awful at the moment. There are no easy games, and all that.

There are ineed no easy games, but we should at least be able to field at home a competitive team for fucks sake.

Some guy on the Fighting Cock:

Never wanted this guy and predicted in the summer that he'd be gone by Christmas. It's quite clear to me that we have made a BIG mistake in this managerial appointment. Bring on the haters now, the people who will call me a knee-jerker, but I know a man who is dead in the water when I see him and that is what I see when I see Poch. Also, notice how several pages from now over the next few weeks, the Poch out crew will begin to develop and grow as he gets closer to his inevitable sacking. This isn't a gag-post, the man is just not up to the job. Time will prove me right and we'll be back to where we started - looking for a new manager.

This isn't a knee jerk either - time will prove me right. He'll be gone by Christmas, I'm just calling it early.

Can anybody point me in the direction of some post match comments from Poch?

Still baffled by Fazio not playing. As far as we knew it was only Townsend and Walker out through injury.

Poch has said he's angry and I hope he's going to kick their arses for next week. We have no leaders in the team and haven't since we had King, Gallas, Parker, VDV in the side

AVB played 4231 with almost the same players and we were shite, got hammered couldn't score, he goes Sherwood went 442 he got results but gets move on we them employ another manager who plays 4231 and surprise surprise we play shite can't score or even create chances. We either play a formation that's suits our players or buy some that can play 4231.

I think we need the CM player but also a pacey LWF to complement our attacking options with Erkisen and Lamela as well as a lone striker who can be consistent and get us 20 goals

It doesn't seem that hard but I bet in reality it will be - for a start it's really rather dependent on the defense being sorted out by a returning Vertonghen and one or both of Fazio and Dier being a capable partner as well as Walker or the American being a suitable right back and probably needing Davies to be a good enough LB too

Even if all those defensive permutations fall into place I still see us needed at least a MS type CM, a top quality lone striker and someone with pace to improve our creative attacking options before we can even get back to our old position of best of the rest challenging for top four every year

I also would like that exact kind of wide left attacker. I think someone with pace, dribbling ability, and the will to go at defenders would be fantastic. Frankly, they wouldn't really even need to be of overwhelming quality, just simply possess those qualities we so badly lack. Surely we could find some relatively cheap winger with a give fuck all mentality and the will to make defenders work to stop him. I hope like hell no one takes this as racist as it couldn't be further from the truth, but Nigeria is loaded with wingers with this skillset and mentality. Surely we could find one for a decent price.

Likewise, a CM with the ability to get the ball forward either with a pass or at the foot also doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. Again he wouldn't have to be top quality, just provide a skillset we so badly lack. The ripple effect of introducing even a little creativity and push from deep would be disproportionately massive. Would open up so much space for our movement, and prevent opponents from inducing their gameplans on us.

Point is, I really don't think it would take much. But the time has come for us to take risks and make big changes/experiments. I don't blame our managers for being hesitant given our track record with them (note only Sherwood made a drastic change to the 4-4-2 with Eriksen wide, because he was desperate/knew his job was fucked anyway), but Poch has got to do something. The sideways, toothless passing and movement from our midfield is dragging us further into a black pit of mediocrity week by week.

Back from the game. Wow we were bad. It looked like Paulinho ball watched and allowed Morrison a header from 6 yards. paulinho is terrible. He had a chance to play a through ball instead he dithered and dithered and dithered and played the ball out wide to rose which went for a throw.
It was Lamela.

They finished 8th with the 18th highest wage bill in the league!
So....they were a wee bit tight with the salary? They changed the manager, sold half their best eleven, bought a striker no other club would risk and are now 2nd.
Pochettino didn't prove himself beyond achieving what should be expectations last season.

It was the thirty million pound wonder kid that should have had five feet fuck all Morrison covered and not Paulinho. Lamela was the one so called marking him.

Fuck knows, I don't see how they don't either. Ultimately at the end of their reign I put it down to being a substandard coach, this early on though I suspect Poch is easing his way into things and needs to kick arse and make changes. Things will take time though.

Its not just the usual suspects though, however much people don't want to hear it Eriksen and Lamela are as bad as the Townsend's and Lennon's in the squad... I lost count of the number of times today they didn't see a good option or ignored it in order to do some pointless bit of skill or made the game more difficult than it needed to be.

Too many players that seem to want to do something flash as soon as it gets to their feet in the squad. It needs to be drilled into them... Pass and move, minimum of fuss. Lets get the basics right first before trying all the fancy flicks and tricks.

That balance of getting things right first is difficult with players who think they've already made it.

Watching Vardy today makes me long for players with that attitude. Cambiasso would never have been on Levys shopping list.

.. Until we start looking at players based upon whether they'd fit the system or not over price .. we will struggle. Poch identified MS as essential.

What.The.Fuck.

Everything about your post is so utterly wrong.

I don't think so - there is a bigger picture than the fantasy of getting our motley crew to play like Bayern Munich at the drop of a hat, without the requisite time to get familiar with any kind of system or structure.

Since you disagree so vociferously, what would you have prescribed and why?

Sometimes I feel that the only thing we have going for us is that we are a London club, not sure anybody with serious financial funds would look at us otherwise.

A truly pathetic performance from a bunch of average players who put in cowardly performances. Well, that's their week's work done - they can slope off back to their mansions with £40k in their back pockets, whilst we have to face another five days of ribbing in the office. Bravo!

I think he didn't pick Fazio because he played 90 mins on Thursday. Same with Verts. He probably and rightly thought that Kaboul and Verts could handle West Brom. I imagine he's feeling very let down by our lot today and I don't think he'll be caught out again. I'd be surprised if Verts gets picked any time soon. He was given a chance today against lesser opposition and was found out.

Fazio and Verts to start next week but I'm not sure even that will be enough.
