Couldn't see this elsewhere but found it a little eye opening. Hardly a welcome with open arms from Arsene, ouch!

Danny Welbeck: Arsene Wenger cryptic over striker's Arsenal move

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he would not have signed striker Danny Welbeck on transfer deadline day had he been in the country.

The 23-year-old left boyhood club Manchester United in a £16m switch to the Gunners while Wenger was away in Rome for a charity game.

Wenger said: "If I'd stayed at home he wouldn't be here now."

He refused to elaborate on that but added he initially wanted Welbeck on loan with an option to buy.

I get the feeling someone's been undermined from above in the Transfer Market and doesn't like it. lol.

Wow. What a 'welcome' for poor Danny. That's pretty poor form from Arsene - normally I quite like the guy but that's just...rude.

I think it's particularly telling in that he seems to flat out refuse to single players out for anything or even speak in a negative way about his team, even if they've been truly shit, yet he kind of has done for a player that's yet to kick a ball for him.

great signing for them and i think his comment has been twisted or taken out of context.

It has been entirely, the original:

"Of deadline day – and the criticism of his trip to Rome – “Wenger said: “If I had not travelled that day, Welbeck would not be here. The coincidence made it. If I stayed in my home, Welbeck would not be here. I will tell you that story one day. That is the truth. We are in 2014, you can always be in touch.” When he was pressed on what he meant, Wenger added: “The advantage of that day was I got up at 6am and was available the whole day.”

It's pretty obvious he means that he managed to steal a march on everyone else as he was up earlier.

About the same price West Ham paid for Carroll and ten million less than we wasted on Soldado.

Welbeck may not be world class but he's easily worth 16mill in today's market.
It's what some suckers will pay for him for sure. That's clear.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says striker Danny Welbeck was sold because he did not score enough goals.

Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29164940

Told you he was shit. Van Gaal didn't want him and nor did Wenger.

Except Wenger did want him. And Van Gaal already has Rooney, RVP, and Falcao to choose from and is only in 2 competitions.

For some reason people are misinterpreting this quote. It's just Wenger being his usual ****ish self and claiming that he signed Welbeck ahead of us because he woke up earlier.

It doesn't matter whether he wanted him or not, they can afford to waste 16 million.
Even if he is shit, chances are he is going the score against us and the chances are he will be playing in the champions league next season.
