We have our best scoring output since the 60s. We don't however keep enough clean sheets.
See this is where stats don’t actually tell the story. We should have a way higher scoring output. You know what I’m judging that on. Not xg or any other modern take on it. I’m judging it on my eyes and 35 years following football!

yes we need to concede less and give away less silly chances. But we need to be way way way more clinical in forward positions. That’s our biggest weakness.

progression is rarely linear
Yep agree, but I can't see what we're learning at the moment. It's a little rinse and repeat. Not saying he won't get us improving, but I think we have been found out a little and that necessitates something slightly different.

Had W Ham scored it would have been chalked off and we would have been given the free kick
It really swung the momentum of the match as we were quite on top, should've had a free kick in a very good position.

Instead they nearly score and crowd gets lifted which helps them back into the game. shocking refereeing

I wouldn't say it's our biggest weakness at all

Only taking 13 shots given the wet conditions was a bit odd. If Maddison feels the need to drop so deep just to get the ball rolling then are Bissouma and Bentacour doing their jobs properly in terms of progressing the ball forward? If Son is playing as a striker then surely Maddison should be instructed to play nearer to him otherwise Son is never going to receive the kind of through balls that he thrives on.

The starting eleven and perhaps the squad as a whole seriously lacks size, physicality and aggression in these types of games which may need to be addressed in future transfer windows.
I was thinking this is where we miss a big striker to occasionally cross some balls into the box, it’s where pep thought ok we pass and pass and pass but Haaland can take us to the next level, what’s Harry Kane up to next season ? ;)

Ivan Toney or Isak perhaps?

Ange has real problems here, we've gone backwards in the last 3 months, which is in direct contravention to his mantra of developing and progressing being the most important thing. He needs a variant of his style to employ.

Off the top of my head I don't think City score many from outside the box either.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I think Pep (and Ange) see outside the box shots as 'low percentage opportunities'.

Which is typically true, unless you have Son who can routinely bend in worldies with either foot.
One of my bugbears is 'ideological' football.

If a team (yes, us) effectively telegraphs to the opposition that they are not going to shoot from distance because its 'not what we do', then they (yes, West Ham) can set themselves to cover the intricate little one-two's and crowd the attacking team out without worrying about someone popping it in the top corner. The same goes for never playing over the top, or always playing slowly from the back.

Sometimes it's worth just pinging a few shots from distance early so as to keep the defence in two minds as to what you might do next time. They have to cover two different options. Someone has to come out to block, so a gap appears and the FB has to tuck in to cover, which opens space up for the winger, and so on.

I really miss Kane now, can you imagine him around that box tonight?
Its not even the goals though its the ability to pick our THAT pass. That's what we miss. Apparently we're scoring enough goals.

Or an Edin Dzeko, unfortunately he's 38.

There no difference to the way we’re playing now to when conte was here. So bloody flat.
Last year we only had one PL game all season with more possession than we had today. And today wasn't even one of our more possession dominant games.

Memories are short. We play completely differently to how we did under Conte.

Especially when it’s the no 2 keeper who’s last game was when Labour were still in government

Is it just me or does Porro seem less productive in attack these days
He was particularly poor in possession today but I'll put it down to conditions... (Just for him though as I like him, those other ****s I don't like though :cautious: )
.
Let's just say it was anomalous performance.

Thought the front three were the worst performers today very poor and timid. All squandered decent positions.
Johnson was probably the most effective but still wasted some golden opportunities.

We’ve come away to a side that most said pre game “always raise their game” or “it’s their cup final” or variations of “dont fancy us”. Sure we’ve not been at our best but still got a good solid point, dominated the game with out being at our best.

When you know a team are going to play the low block against you, why on earth would you walk the ball slowly out of your own penalty area all the way to theirs, allowing them to get all their players set up exactly how they want to be, every time you attack ? Does my bloody head in.
