Listening to AVB after the match, I think he is thinking that he needs to take a full team to Norway to get that result out of there system. I really hope he doesnt take a full team to Tromso on Thursday, he needs to work on the players this week for the united match on Sunday, and the Fulham match on Wednesday. The Europa league isnt going to keep him in a job the league will. 4pts in out next two games should be the target.
Today was as bad as I can remember, but we need to forget about it and focus on the next match. There has been some really bad results this season, some we can put down to bad luck, and others we simply didnt create enough chances.
We are too predictable at times, we need width and balance, and while players like rose are still out we dont have the balance. He needs to rethink the style and formation while these players are still out. Playing Jan at left back is better than playing Naughton, but that we cant play a high line, dawson is really slow and with walker bombing forward leaves us exposed at times, on that side. We have players out that would improve that side no question, and we have been really unlucky with the injuries and the nature of recovery from them. There is too many players playing in the wrong role maybe because of this.
With the spending in the summer we did strength some areas, but we arent as balanced as we would think. And buying Soldado isnt really a mistake but you need to supply him from the wings, and you arent going to do that with wingers cutting in. Soldado would be great if Bale was playing/here but he isnt. AVB and Baldini need to sit down an work out what they need to fix it, whether Levy is going to give more cash to spend is another thing. I personally would keep him for the forseeable future, simply because there isnt really anyone else I think we could get that would be better than him. Unless Diego Simeone becomes available.
Like it or not the writing has been on the wall for us since last season, Bale simply papered over the cracks in a squad that lacked real investment in the Harry years in players for the future, with stop gap players the last two years ie buying the likes of Dempsey and moving him on the following year. Id like to think that we have a squad here for the future but its going to need a bit more investment in and tweaking. Whether AVB is the manager for that team in the future, only he can sort that out, but its going to need a bit more patience by the fans, and the board.
