When people start to realise we don’t have Europe (or league cup) to worry about and how that’s benefited less fancied teams in the past, they might really start to worry…. They will start praying for injuries to our defence like we did with arsenal last year.

There some top notch idiocy in there. The midfield isn’t low key and is easily top 4 quality, with Bentancur still to come. The last comment just boggles my mind, people really do think we are better because Kane isn’t there rather than in spite of him not being there. It’s astounding. The guy who thinks we lucked into Ange on the other hand might have a point….

"Low key" in London is slang for "secretly" or "under the radar" and it can also be used to indicate when someone wants to express that they don't feel passionately about something, e.g. "I low key hate that person" actually means you just mildly dislike them. In this case the Arsenal fan appears to be saying that our midfield has gone under the radar as a top 4 midfield, which is probably the case on their forum.

I'm only just picking up the meaning of all this new slang from family members under 30 years old 😒

The top notch idiocy is not realising what the original poster was saying.

Low key just means we're flying under the radar with a great midfield.

Arsenal Mania:

Postecogliou might be the signing of the season tbh. Spurs look annoyingly good.

I think the same. They look so ***ing fresh attacking-wise. He did a very good job.

Hasn't even got "his " players too for the most part.

Spurs might low key have a top four central midfield. Early days obviously but the balance looks great and Maddison looks far better than I expected him to be.

What's annoying is that Ange wasn't even top choice or close apparently. They've almost lucked their way into getting him.

Spurs have been looking much better without trying to play through Kane all the time.

This comment is maybe correct but shows how money has screwed the game. Maddison and Bissouma are elite midfielders, if Chavs paid £100m a piece for each everyone would have been saying Chavs have the best midfield in the league.

Not saying Bissouma, Maddison and Bentancur is the best midfield in the league but only City’s is clearly superior, the rest are all debatable.

I realise what he’s saying. I don’t agree that it’s flying under the radar, it’s obvious it’s been brilliant. The top notch idiocy was really the Kane comment as well

I think it’s a fair comment

firstly Bentancur isn’t even playing right now. Comments are referring to midfield playing Sarr who has just broken through

secondly Bissouma was terrible last year

thirdly Maddison has just joined and has had question about durability and defensive work in the past

actually pretty fair and complimentary in my view

We will have bad runs though, teams will catch us out

Yes, but will they outscore us?
Quite possibly.

Teams will create chances against us, there is bound to be a day when a club is clinical and take all their chances and we don't take ours.

The real test will be the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal who will have more possession and the skill to break through our pressing.

I'm loving what I'm seeing so far, but their are far bigger tests coming up.

Urban Dictionary . com is a very useful resource for translating the new generations.
From there:
"In short, lowkey is used to describe a speaker's thoughts, feelings, and desires, and it means:

1: moderately: of low emotional intensity
2: secretly"

For what its worth, I think the Arsenal fan is using it in the second slang meaning of the word, i.e. he is embarrassed to admit in front of his Arsenal bluds that he secretly believes our midfield is top-4 quality.

It was Conte that was terrible, not Bissouma.

No dedicated thread on us, but one on Ange.
  • Dropping Dier and changing formation seems to have worked a treat.
  • Just seems odd other teams, including perennial losers like Spurs, can bring in a manager and change style of play quickly but we need the new manager 2 years to settle in, build his team and pay inflated fees for average players before we resemble a decent team.
  • better than Poch
  • Started well but could just be a new manager bounce. Let's wait for his first real test
    • When Manchester United stop being a real test
      • When United are that passive it really isn't a test.
  • Brentford-United-Bournemouth-Burnley: still waiting to see them against a good team but early signs are good compared to last year
  • Doing well, early days but I’m surprised and impressed so far.
  • Think we are seeing the metamorphosis of Sonaldo.
Doesn't quite have that electric pace anymore but stick him central and he's clinical, whilst still being mobile enough to cause defenders an issue. May even suit us better than Kane would have. (does he think they have a chance to sign Son?)
  • What a fun appointment for Spurs, he’s turned them into an entertaining team overnight with virtually no investment and brought some joy in what was otherwise going to be a pretty dim post-Kane era.
    • It’s early days yet, far too soon for any meaningful analysis.
See Solskjaer’s early days and the Rio Ferdinand infamous quote about signing a contract and letting Ole put whatever numbers he wants on it. It was fun for a short while but soon became disastrous for quite some time.
      It’s four games in.
    • I know a few were converting loans to permanent transfers but Spurs have actually spent over £200m this summer, obviously getting a fair chunk of that back with the Kane sale.
  • Early days.
They seem to be creating chances at ease, look capable of scoring loads and actually want to be playing football.
No Europe, only play once a week, bodes well for Ange gelling his team. But you know they will have a Spursy moment.
  • Fair play to him, terrific start. Could just be a honeymoon period though so let's see what happens.
Has Glaston crawled out of his cave yet?
  • Ange just has them playing all out attack minded football, which is pretty fun and a complete 180 from the Jose/Nuno/Conte years. They create lots of chances but also leave huge gaps and concede a lot to the opponent. It reminds me a little bit of some of Wenger's Arsenal teams in the later years, throwing men forward, creating a lot, but also capable of conceding at any moment. They are running hot in terms of the ball going (or not going) in the net right now with an XG-XGA spread of 8.65-6.5 but a G-GA spread of 11-4.
  • He has a long history of improving teams. Every step of his career when he stepped up a level he met the challenge. What he does is create structure and space for his players to grow. There will be bad runs of course but he has already shown he belongs at this level.
  • The only 'good' team Spurs have played is United. And as it stands atm, United are not that good.
But then again, Chelsea have been rubbish, Newcastle poor and Arsenal along with United unconvincing.
  • Should have first gone to the championship to prove himself
    • Maybe league two and worked his way up
  • And to be honest, the first 40 minutes of the United game, United dominated Spurs and should’ve been two up.
But he’s playing exciting forward thinking football that will entertain the fans. But it’s hard to judge how good they actually are yet, hardly played any games. Once the new manager bounce settles, they have a bad day and have to react to it, and teams have had a little time to study how they play, then we will see how good they are.
He’s off to a great start though. As a Spurs fan you couldn’t ask for more. Seems a likeable chap too.
  • In due course most half decent teams will have them worked out pretty quickly, they need to enjoy it whilst it lasts.
  • I’m absolutely baffled at how they had a free run at Maddison for £40m? I know he’s had his injury problems but he’s always looked quality, even in a poor Leicester side. Far less exciting midfielders have gone for much more money than him this summer.
    • Yeah, they've done very well to get him. I really like him. He's quality. I guess the problem is that some of the other clubs may already have players who play in his position. I wouldn't have minded at all if we went for him instead of Mount, though.
    • Just realised he was cheaper than Fred
  • My favourite Australian
  • He's brought in players good under pressure in Maddison and Solomon, identified Richarlison as a weak link which was obvious at Everton, and is playing some good stuff as a result.
  • Not surprised at all that he has made a good start. Was standing out as a candidate for this type of job, not just based on his work at Celtic but a background of actually winning stuff. Winning is winning, whether it's Japan or Scotland or wherever, when it becomes a pattern it suggests something because many managers don't get over the line.
Seems to be able to coach players, maintains a good discipline without getting too matey with them, which is underlined by his straight forward way of communication which is often a strength of Australian leaders. He also had a great eye for a player in Scotland, we'll see how well that transitions to the PL. But you can't really complain about picking up a footballer as talented as Maddison as a start.
  • I'm unsurprised at their progress. Not only are thd players happier, allowing them to operate nearer their true potential for years, the loss of Kane has forced the attacking players to finally take on more responsibility rather than shirking it all on his shoulders. It also helps Bissouma is finally back to his Brighton pomp, yet they added Maddison.
  • When they were playing like this in preseason people said ‘need to see it in the actual season’. Now they’re scoring goals like this in the league. This coach is legit and Spurs will, annoyingly, be very entertaining to watch this season.
  • Great start to the season despite the cup loss. Maddison will probably be the signing of the season, he's fantastic and Southgate needs to find a place for him in the England side.

The first half was pretty even I recall, they started stronger we finished stronger

Both teams had chances and we finished strongly

United should have been 2 nil up against us? The first half was pretty even I recall.
Hmm I'd agree with his assessment, United started off better and had great chances to score, notably Fernandes with a sitter when he headed well wide

The first half was fairly balanced yes they started better but I think we finished better, didn’t we hit the woodwork twice?

I think we will look far more dangerous with Son playing centrally as well.

I mean they did have two absolute sitters they missed. We had a couple of decent chances too but their misses were so horrendous
