Just seen it from another angle and whilst it is true Grealish probably doesn't have the pace to really burst away, it also needs pointing out he is going onto his right foot (inside) which means Davies is certainly catching him. And even if he gets in front of Davies, he is coming across and not going directly toward goal which means Emerson is probably getting back faster than Grealish can get to his shooting position.

I rate his chances of scoring from that 50/50. It is not clear at all

I reckon the ref thought Grealish was offside so called it back quickly to give City the free kick.

anyway, like you say, from where he was, 50/50 at best, his chance of scoring.

I’d put it lower myself. He’s coming inside as you say so Davies is going to be right there, and royal is comfortably quicker than him so would close from the other side. One remotely dodgy touch and the chance has gone, and even if he does it perfectly we had the chance to foul him. Even if none of that happens he still has to actually score the chance.

If Mickey was on the pitch we wouldn’t even be having this conversation, his chances of scoring would have been zero…

Actually I do have a complaint about Ange,

His made it so hard to get a ticket, because fans want to go to games.

Also round where we sit the negativity has gone, not to mention you only get to watch half a game of football because we play such a high line.

Mickey could have nipped home to make his gran a cup of tea and still been back in time.

I had it at work yesterday and said similar. I’ll admit at the time I couldn’t believe it, and I wouldn’t have been entirely happy if it happened to us.. but… the chances of Grealish going on to score was pretty slim.

The way everyone is going on, it was a certain goal they were being robbed of.

As has been acknowledged elsewhere, think if it had been earlier in the game it would've been almost forgotten, particularly if it was at a point City were up.

When you watch it back, Emerson and Porro (both faster than Grealish) stopped early/when the ref blew. Davies was pretty much with Grealish and he didn't have the ball under control. It wasn't like it was going to feasible for him to control then square it - we had 5 players ahead of the next city player.

You have to acknowledge it was a bad call, but there are plenty of "bad-calls" or 50:50's that go one way or the other - feel like City got away with a few yellows (e.g. Alvarez), whilst the ref gave them a good few corners/throws that didn't seem out and the freekick for their first goal seemed very soft to me.

It always seems the way when these "big incidents" get focused on significantly, whereas other incidents just go unnoticed/forgotten. I'm not asking for increased scrutiny on the small detail here - more that people likely need to put incidents like the Grealish one into context of the game not being perfect, and never will be.

Clearly an honest mistake and from the ref's position he had a lot to consider.

Exactly we see it from above, you can’t see it from the ref’s eyes to see what he could see, also it could look worse on Camera / the delay of when he blew / the reactions of the players.

so apart from oi oi Saveloy, what are West Ham fans saying

Some are very optimistic, citing 1981, 2013 and the like. Some are very pessimistic, hoping they'll keep it to a three-goal defeat.

This is one of the very optimistic ones...

Fancy us to win this 3-2 with 31% possession and singing this loud and constantly through the game -

Also, what does a 4 year old with a squid up their arse do? It may well be the wierdest analogy I have ever heard of.

I hadn’t realised the clean sheet stats seem to require you to play the full 90. Destiny has played in all 4 of our clean sheets this season

So a little maths

Pedro Assists 3
Udogie Assists 2
3+2 = 5.

Coufal Asssits 5

5 v 5. + World Cup winners, + European Champions + "London" to their free stadium.

Coufal wins on the Assists front.

I just had a flick through when stuck on a train. Overall it is very pessimistic,
surprisingly so given our injuries. There was one sighting of the most bizarre thing West Ham fans ever say:

‘it’s their Cup Final’

Yep, course it is. Bigger than Arsenal, bigger than Chelsea. Jesus wept

To be fair, we are facing the Champions of Europe. Like Villa they are ahead of us now after last season. They're the favourites but if we can just cling on and try and nick a win that would be a great result.

Champions of Europe of the third rate competition, that our squad didn't want to play in so they downed tools at the end of last season

50/50's a bit generous. This is Grealish we're talking about, you know.
