The thing is we ARE in the top 6 trophy winners. Now we have the best stadium, generating the most matchday income and turnover. And doing it all organically not through oil money. We should be lauded, not criticized. Blows my mind how you slag of a well run football club doing it the right way but give City, Chelsea and Newcastle a pass. Weird people. It's never crossed my mind to dislike Villa, they're a big club with a great tradition and battling the oil clubs at the top and I'd be more than happy if they won it instead of City/Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea but comments like theirs make me change my view.

They seem to have forgot to include West Ham in that table……

This was definitely my favourite Villa quote after the Man U match:

  • they are looking sharper than us but hopefully with Tielemans back and hopefully Torres soon, we can go up a couple of gears!

Oh, you sweet summer child. You think that was our full team, don’t you?

Looking forward to when Emery gets hooked by a big club. I'm sure Real Madrid and Barcelona will be eyeing him up in the not too distant future.
Think that’s unrealistic, he’s already failed at two big clubs, I doubt he gets another chance at a top tier side. This is also the kind of thing people in this very thread moan about other fans saying.

2 big clubs? You can't mean the gooners? And he won the domestic quad in his 2nd season at PSG. To say he failed is a bit of a stretch.

Pretty ludicrous to suggest they aren’t a big club.

You're right of course. But he was treated harshly by the players, had the board given him the same backing and support they gave Lego head I'm will to bet they would be much further along than they are now.

That’s as maybe, but managing big stars with big egos is a big part of managing at the elite clubs. He may have won the quad with PSG but he was never able to make any headway in the prize they really want, the European cup. Winning domestic things with PSG is an almost a dead cert. He didn't do well with the egos there either.

He’s a good manager don’t get me wrong, but sometimes managers have a level and his is the step down from elite clubs which have bigger expectations. He’s had success at Sevilla, and is doing well with Villa.

Maybe he just needs to only manage teams with Villa in their name.

A bit harsh. PSG have only ever won the domestic quadruple 4 times, so wouldn't call that a dead cert and they were knocked out of the CL by Real Madrid, who went onto win it that season for their 3rd consecutive year.

Emery is the most successful manager in PSG history by win rate and second by trophies (after Blanc who was there longer). His record is miles better than the likes of Ancelloti and Poch. He may not have won in Europe but as others have noted they lost to the winners and PSG is a basket case of a club with a way too powerful dressing room anyway. He’s a top notch manager

Newcastle Online
  • Spurs starting to get a bunch of solid CBs. Didnt know Dragusin was at the club already
  • Need a spurs win here
  • They look more solid with a few players back
  • Skipp in midfield, no Son and Werner playing...proper shite side, annoyingly comfortable man utd win here
  • Deliberate elbows to the face are okay now?
  • 1-1
    Richarlisn
  • Cracking corner
  • Werner is legit dreadful. Like Almiron with even worse technique and little of the defensive contribution
  • Spurs running the show.
  • I like Werner, I just don’t rate him as a finisher.
  • Garnacho wont get anything out of Udogie.
  • Udogie far to good.
  • Spurs defence is so bad
  • Poor defending from Spurs again, letting Rashford score ffs
  • Spurs defending for both goals has been shocking
They need Royal and Davies back in at CB
  • Really like Vicario. No way is he 6ft 4” though. Always looks tiny for a keeper.
  • Werner 🤣 So useless
  • Fucking hell Werner.

    Proper useless
  • Fantastic half of football this
  • Porro has fantastic delivery
  • Yeah. Brilliant game so far.
Spurs are so good on the ball and working openings. But because of their style, they’re wide open. Some individual mistakes fucking them and all.
    Howay Spurs. Beat these fuckers.
  • 2-2
  • Boom!!! Rocket.
  • Class attack from Spurs starting with a magnificent pass from Romero.
  • That's liquid football
  • Nice by Werner
  • Timo's been good.
Kept it pretty simple and playing with his head up, linking with his teammates.
    Good assist
  • Such an annoying transfer, would have been a perfect option for us especially with the low fee agreed
  • Spurs are superiour in possession
  • Not much is made of Spurs spending 300m in 1.5 windows.
They’ve spent half a billion since the start of last summer.
    Ange the miracle worker

I make it €272M since the start of last summer. Unless you mean the summer before. That adds €160M. €432M. Then convert to pounds. £371M.
Then subtract the sales of €154M if you like.
It’s a lot, definitely. Thank you Levy for getting us through that last 20 years to this point.
I think Ange is great. If you listen to people who call him a miracle worker, then I suggest you listen to different people.
I also think Ange is great. Just above I said the prospect of peak Ange's style of football is scary. But you have invested a hell of a lot of money in recent seasons. And it’s not mentioned as much as our investment.
I like Ange because he believes in ballers but he also likes a vertical quick game. It’s brilliant to watch

I love this thread so much. If the fans of the Villas, Newcastle etc were being honest with themselves they hate us because they’re jealous that we broke the stranglehold of the old top 4 and we’ve sustained our position once we got there.
There’s always a team on the cusp of doing the same: Leicester a few years back and recently Villa and Newcastle, but no other team has of yet managed to do the same. We’re the target as we’re on paper the ones that can be got at, but so far no one has been able to go toe to toe and remove us from the equation. So to watch all the hatred come our way when they are on the up only makes their inevitable decline all the more sweet.

They do tend to hate us now, but the reason is something else.

Everyone expected us to be absolutely terrible this season, they thought a mix of Conte and Kane kept us afloat for the last two seasons (not that wrong), however they thought with a new inexperienced manager and without Kane we'd drop like a stone.

I think even a few pundits had us outside of the top 10, none of them were even considering us for top 4 or even 6.

The fact that we are still with the leading pack having been decimated by injuries is something that other fans can't take.

We shouldn't be there or there abouts and the probability is we'll get stronger. This anger from other fans is because we shouldn't be there.

They now go on about arguments about spending, when we had been ridiculously frugal pre Fabio. They have nothing to chalk it down to except being a well run club.

The only other club that can say that they've done well (relatively) is Villa. And now finding that the fanbase is full of absoloute nobs (and some of the players, cough Matty Cash cough) it's difficult to have a liking for them.

It reminds me a bit of United (league wide hatred) during the 90s, but the fall back argument was always that United outspent clubs by quite a bit.

There is no reason to hate us, especially with Ange and the football we play. Most rational fans will say well done. Though United fans apart no one has, because most of the other club fans are scum.

If we improve our form over the second half of the season we'll be bathing in the tears, it'll be glorious.

I want more outrage, the Liverpool game, the Chelsea high line with 9 men etc...

I'd Keegan love it if we get a top 3 finish and the FA cup, the backlash would be something special. Then we go big in the Summer while other clubs are crying about FFP, it'll be a sight to behold.

Villa Talk
  • I just can't see Spurs finishing above us the way Ange plays. They will run out out of legs well before the season ends

  • Bigger squad, no Europe. But it wouldn't shock me if we made 4th and they were 5th either.
Just think we will be slightly behind them.
Be interesting to see how they get on at OT tonight.
  • Well this side there is huge media hype, an most are fed up of hearing about 'big Ange's Spurs
  • Come on Utd
  • Spurs are miles better than Man. United
  • Bentancur is Spurs' Kamara. Snuffs out attacks
  • Spurs are probably our biggest rivals for a CL place
  • I'll take anything other than a Spurs win
  • Spurs will feel a bit like us with this draw. They were by far the better team today
  • they are looking sharper than us but hopefully with Tielemans back and hopefully Torres soon, we can go up a couple of gears!
  • Man Utd got us out of jail there holding Spurs to a draw
  • Tottenham looked very good. Players to come back in top. Serious threat to us
Im
Sorry, but who the fuck do villa think they are? They’ve had HALF a good season in the last 15 years? Fuck off brummie twats.

Its those league titles that hurts. Lets be honest. Villa 7! Everton 9! even Newcastle with 4.
I always roll my eyes when these clubs talk about pre-war titles. The Football League was entirely different, there were only 2 divisions, and there were less clubs. Everyone was playing the inverted pyramid back then as well, and passing was frowned upon everywhere except Scotland. The teams that dominated were the ones that basically had Scottish players who actually (gasp) passed the ball (our own Pete McWilliam at Newcastle a perfect example).

I think this is bang on the money. Thought this for a while.

And although we've done that as a club, we've still fallen short when it comes to getting over the line to lifting anything. So that's still used as a stick to beat us from fans of teams above.

Not a perfect analogy but it's like a working class guy winning the lottery in some respects. Rejected by his old pals for being rich, but never accepted by the upper-classes. But, fuck 'em.

Newcastle fans talking about how much we've spent

Nice to see they don't include sales. It's not like we sold our best player in the summer afterall. I'm sure they include the Porro and Kulusevski signings multiple times as well. Not to mention our money is actually generated by us and we're well within ffp. I'm finding it rather bizarre that we get hated on when we're one of the few clubs to do things organically and do well with it.

Just goes to show how many football fans are oblivious and/or blinded. We spend within our means. Always have done, and as long as Levy is around, always will.
