We (almost) all agree that he should not have played today esp LW, but why did we buy him? He does not fit the profile of players we buy, an old unknown with little sell on value.

Can we play:

Lennon -- Jenas -- Zokora -- O'Hara

-------- Pav --- Bent or Gio

Play one off or 2 up, but just have some bollox and FFS have a go.

Not sure really. I was quite excited we signed Brazil's second choice marauding full back. And apparently he was quite good at Werder Bremen.

He's been rubbish in every game I've seen him in for us. He did score a goal last season but that's the only positive contribution so far. Perhaps he's still injured. But please show us a glimpse of something. Anything.

I was intrigued when we bought him, but he looks poor and not up to the Prem at all. Might be a left back on the continent but the Prem is a different game, and he is not good enough to be a left winger. At 31-ish, its not like he has time on his side and I would rather play Bale or BAE at left back, and Bale or Gio at LM.

I dont even know why he was making the bench, never mind starting yesterday

I assumed he was short-term cover for left back. At the time he joined BAE and Bale were both out long-term and LYP clearly wasn't a favourite of Ramos. Chimbonda played LB at the end of the season. Seems to be another stop gap that didn't work, like Rocha. The good intention was there but neither were a wise purchase.

Would agree he has not looked great for us but I do not subscribe to this 'not goon enough for premier league' view. If he's good enough to play in the world cup for Brazil and was held in high regard at Werder then he's certainly good enough for the Prem.

Look at Bentley, I would say he's been bloody worse then Gilberto wouldn't you?

Nah, I think this current form is running through the majority of our squad at the moment and I don't think it's fair to just put on Gilberto like this. I bet if we sold him to Pompey or something he would be bloody great for them....

Something seriously stinks at Spurs.............

Thing is at over 30 he is not only going to suffer physically as his legs run out of steam, but he is also set in a certain way of playing, at a certain tempo, and right now we have too many players that are not used to Prem football.

Totally agree mate to many of our signing dont work and they vanish without a trace, whats happened to Rocha,Boateng,Taarbat if these players are not good enough why are they still at the club.

The club transfer policy is a joke we sign players that we cant even sell when they dont work out look at the Ghaly situation, whats going on.

either those 3 players, or ramos seemed to have burnt bridges. The fact they were left out of the preseason trip to spain indicated that ramos didnt want anything to do with them anymore. now he cant just bring them back into the fold so they play in the reserves until someone wants them. problem is that we continue to pay their wages, they play reserve football, and we hold out for silly money (see Stoke and the Gardener situation which almost fell through). we could have easily just loaned them out to any takers and in the process increasing their value if they play well, but instead they rot in the reserves, benefitting absolutely NOBODY. its a shambles.
Taarabt had potential and showed glimpses under Jol. KPB didnt really develop, but is young and only had 1 season, has a big body, and is a bit of a bruiser - precisely what we are lacking right now.
Rocha, while nothing fancy is a more than serviceable defender, who used to ply his trade at Benfica and the champions league. the fact they are rotting in the reserves is ridiculous as says a lot about our management team's attitude to players out of favour.

Gilberto was at Hertha, not Werder.

So we sign a stop-gap who isn't fit to play until practically the end of the season. While we're waiting for him we play everyone but the one functioning LB we actually have. Genius.

He was bought in Jan as both Ekotto and Bale were out injured and we were relying on a right-footed combination of malbranque, lennon, chimbonda and/or lee to prop up our right side.

At the time he would have been a decent buy had he not been injured, although we got him on the cheap, so i think overall the idea was right.

That being said he doesn't fit so well into our current system, but i'd like to see him be given a chance at LB as i think fully fit he could do a solid job.

buying him was a mistake - it happens - just don't want JR to compound it by keep picking him

nothing against the guy - the prem isn't for everyone

I don't blame Gilberto for yesterday. He's a LB who's unproven in the Premiership. He hasn't played a minute all season and then he's thrown in at LM in a team with no confidence and, surprise surprise, he's not very good.

Buck stops with Ramos I'm afraid.

I can't understand what has happened to him. He was never this shit for hertha or brazil.

but then Bentley was never this shit for Blackburn, Pavlyuchenko for Spartak and Modric for Zagreb/Croatia so it must be the spurs jinx.

Get rid I say.

Poor everytime I've seen him, even struggled in the Orient pre-season game.

It's looking annoyingly likely that we need to overhaul our squad again as we're so unbalanced...

how many chances has he had? 5 or 6? Maybe once a month with an entirely different formation. He looked useless yesterday, but I dont think anyone on the team knows their responsibilities right now.

For all that he was a signing that made no sense whatoever unless he was fit and ready to roll, which he wasn't, and for all that he was hopeless yesterday and hasn't been exactly impressive in previous games, I wouldn't be too hasty to write him off.

I was not suggesting he was entirely to blame for the defeat, (we all know who's fault all things are on SC), but just don't get why we signed an over 30 nobody with no Prem experience. And nothing against him, I do not understand why he was picked to play, what were we trying to achieve.

As has been said already it is yet another transfer mistake and all part of a shite job that has been done by that area of the club over the last few years.
