How very wise of you, and happy weekend
You happy now? You've done again what you often do, made a fuck-all point and turned a thread into an argument in an attempt to come across as clever and 'logical' when actually all you've accomplished is to come across as a bit of a thick, miserable and contrary prick.

Funny reading the OP.......Ian Moores. Jeez he was so bad, and the fans really had it in for him. But the funniest thing was he had a double who walked all round the terraces selling bags of roasted peanuts during the game. The abuse that poor bloke got was hilarious. "See you found your level, Moores" was one of the more polite comments.

I mentioned this in the match thread last night - went to a lot of those matches but missed some due to shift work.
.
We could sometimes only laugh to keep us sane with the tragicomedy served up week after week.
.
Man U had been relegated so the stigma wasn't so bad and there were no social media soccer sites thankfully.

Although we bounced right back it wasn't without the drama, we were nailed on for most of the season but then had the wobble and need things to go our way in the last few games to go back up in 3rd place after leading for a long time.

The season was littered with the usual Spurs way of doing things - up at promotion rivals Bolton it was 0-0 until the 90+ minute when up popped a young Peter Reid to score their winner.

I knew there were a lot of draws and just checked - 16 from 42 games - Familiar ? Notably twice to Mansfield Town.

This is actually true. I can visualise him breezing through the Paxton with the sack of Percy Daltons - "Peanuts - Peanuts" Get yer roasted peanuts !

That really was a tough season: The four 'stand-out' games I recall were away days at Derby (2-8) when Bruce Rioch scored 4, the 0-1 Cardiff cup defeat where we got chased up, down and around Ninian Park by Welsh hoolies, the 'coup de grace' 0-5 at Maine road and an unlikely 3-2 win at Old Trafford early in the season.

First thing Monday morning at work, following our relegation, out of the blue (literally!) I got a phone call from my City supporting boss asking if I'd consider working in Germany for three years...........and off I went.

"West Germany" as it was known back then. :) I never thought that Iron Curtain was going to fall. The place was always full of US troops and British Squaddies whenever I went there.

Yes, back in 1977 there were 256k UK troops & their dependants stationed in Germany, the US had over 300k troops alone. (The job I accepted was Senior IT Operator at BAOR HQ, just outside Monchengladbach).

I love it when you guys get all nostalgic. It conjures up so many images.

Have some 'Winner' ratings. Love it!

I was there for that final home game against Leicester. Jimmy Holmes, lol, i'd forgotten he even played in that match let alone scored. At the end it was something you would never forget, on the pitch, chanting "we'll support you ever more" and cheering the players when they came out into the old west stand to wave at us. Nowadays I look at it as all part of the ups and downs of being a football fan.

Anyway, fuck all the negativity, it's nothing, we've been in a lot worse positions and as I like to say.......I got 99 problems and the Spurs ain't one of them. We can turn it around, good times are only ever just around the corner.

COYS.

Thanks A&C. Great post to put things in perspective. As a relative newcomer to SC, i wondered when did SC start and whether the level of posts during the more purple patch periods were as negative as they are now. There is little doubt that the quality of football and the results are pretty bad but letting something you have zero control over determine your attitude/mindset isn't very smart nor it is particularly healthy (whether if it is a football team, an election or a partner). Fully agree with your last sentence. "It's never as good as you think and never as bad as you think" COYS

One of the peanut sellers, possibly Moores himself, had a shout where he'd say "peanuts, roasted peanuts. Don't eat the hot-dogs, they'll give you worms" :wideyed:

All this came about because of poor decisions by the Board who ignore Billy Nick's recommendations & appointed Terry Neill as manager.

Too often in our past the Board has made decisions that have set the club back years & they're still doing it.

Went to Blackpool in 2nd div. think it was first of the season. Nice summers day. Won 2-0 and Hoddle scored with a far post header. Resplendent with long curly perm and moustache . Marvellous.
The problem with relegation now is that for a club like ours it would be a complete financial disaster .

my first (TV) Spurs game was the 7-0 hiding at Anfield in Sept '78 when we came back up with Ossie and Ricky in the team. Thats it, i was hooked (f**k knows why!!??)
Might have been the surroundings that did it (John Lion Pub, end of Norval Rd) rather than the performance of the team!

Fortunately I was working that day. I bet Ossie & Ricky wondered what and why it happened.

I was in Athens when that was played and back then you could only get the football results in the following days paper and that was providing the paper boy had fed the donkey and we won't go into exactly what that means today :D

Well that’s cheered me up. @Archibald&Crooks any chance you can write up the 7(?) nil defeat to Liverpool in the next instalment?

Unfortunately for me I was sat next to my dad right next to the Kop watching us getting dismantled

From memory I didn’t think we were actually that bad but Liverpool were mesmerising on the day
