Joe Lewis is fucking loaded, Tottenham Hotspur PLC is an investment for him. If he lets the other clubs invest and improve on the pitch we will get left behind. You can say what you like about Lewis/Levy but at the end of the day they want Spurs to be successful, they want us to be one of the biggest clubs in the world so they can sell and make a profit.

I agree, it would have been a financial risk to buy in January, but we should have started last season with another striker.
It will always be a debate of should we have bought a striker in January would we have won that 1 more game and made top 4. Was it worth a gamble, which if we had made it could have negated an inflated price?

I don't think there is any question that an additional striker would have earned us a few extra points here and there, but that discussion only becomes relevant now we know how the season panned out. In January none of us knew how it would go, and I'm pretty sure if you had asked anybody if Arsenal would take 26 of 30 points to close the season out they would have said no.

So whilst as fans we were desperate to see a new striker I don't think the club were. Like bobbins said, we would have had to pay a shit load of money and even without that striker we still got our record points total. With hindsight it would have been a risk worth taking, but I can fully appreciate why the decision makers at the club didn't sign off on a huge payment for Damiao or similar.

But it certainly seems like the club were gearing more towards this Summer and it's great to see that Levy is getting behind the manager and getting some signings in early. It wouldn't surprise me to see some deadline action too, but hopefully AVB will be given a fairly solid squad for game 1.

Not including new sponsorships i'd estimate the following:

Shortfall in spending in previous seasons = £20M
Normal budget for transfers = £30M
Lewis loan = £50M
Increased TV money = £38M
Caulker sale = £9M
Released players wages saved = £4M
Total = £151M

Add to this any outgoing transfers and loan fees + new commercial deals.

So far we have spent

Paulinho = £17M
Soldado = £25M
Chadli = £7M
New wages = £8M
Total = £57M

Now of course these are only estimates and wages are per annum so i've only counted 1 seasons worth but it does look like there is no financial pressure to sell Gareth Bale. I fully expect other players to leave (and quite possibly arrive especially young players). The elephant in the room of course is the cost of the new stadium :eek:.

Joe Lewis' loan, if true, has helped a lot and also the new TV deals.

Not that long ago Swansea would have had to sell Michu for the sort of money being offered for him but instead have invested further into the squad.

Levy seems to be pretty comfortable with AVB's targets as all, Soldado aside, could bring in a profit in the future if we do sell.

Huddlestone, Parker and Adebayor could all leave which would bring in around £10m and over £150 a week saved in wages. Bentley and Gallas' release probably saves around £120k a week as well. Caulker has been sold for £9m.

I don't think we're breaking the bank.

A loan isn't really offering material help though is it, unless he writes it off in a year or so
An interest-free loan is clearly of massive benefit at the levels we are talking about. It should also encourage spending as the difference between a £50m debt on no interest and a £50m debt at standard commercial rate is huge.

The new TV deals have sky rocketed all the Prem clubs transfer budgets. Look at how much the smaller clubs have spent already!

That is interesting, as I wasn't ITK of the ITK!
I was under the impression JL was a hands off owner. So many posters have berated him for not helping the club personally.

JL will invest when he sees value.
