I think Chelsea (among others) forget that they're not just dealing with Levy here. Because if things go tits up with Willian, I can see Danny boy dragging Bale and, ultimately, Real into this saga, I'd like to think that situation favours us more than Kia and the Chavs to be honest. Plus, they've got the Supercup at the weekend, whereas we're back in London, so I think the timing of all this will end up benefiting us more, too.

When listing all of Chelsea's midfielders that Willian will have to compete with, we are forgetting Marko Marin. I know that Marin is currently on loan, but I suspect that next season Willian could well find himself competing with Marin for the better loans moves...

Lots of you saying Willian won't get in the chelsea team over their current players.
He will be costing more than Oscar, Mata, Hazard etc and in fact, more than anyone in their squad right now except Torres.
I'd also like to think that if we want to succeed we'd be signing players that WOULD get in that team.

So tell me. Is he not good enough for them. Or are people just saying that as a way of convincing themselves he might not go there.
What I've seen suggests he would pay regularly for any one that signs him. Especially at 30m quid.

I refused last year believing Levy was a stingey ****.
I decided we really were going for it this year and coughed up. Then the news broke.

Yeah I was joking, just missed the smiley off the end. One thing that is worth remembering is that if we get a deal done for Willian now, it will feel even sweeter.

It truly would.

Willian for me would be more important to this side than Lamela and to come this far and not conclude would be a real punch in the balls.

So the latest ITK by jj mentions Mourinho is supporting the Willian hijack, maybe he just wants to stick it to RM by scuppering the Bale move at the last minute?

To me, it has Mourinho's prints all over it.
For him, it is a "win-win" scenario. Buying Willian gives him a great player who he may/may not play regularly but might offer him something a little different to his other AMs. If it doesn't work out, he can just loan him out as per Marin. It barely dents Abramovic's sweetie fund but adds options re: the Rooney bid.

Mourinho's recent comments talking up our title credentials is also relevant. I don't believe Mourinho necessarily thinks we are title contenders, but putting a bit of extra pressure on rivals is usually not a bad thing. But his comments do show that our recent transfer activity has made him sit up and take notice. Stopping us getting Willian might prevent us challenging quite so hard.

It also gives him the opportunity to stick it to AVB. In a twisted way, this is a sign of respect from Mourinho. He generally only gets hissy with those he thinks challenge his/his team's status. He couldn't pass up the opportunity to get one over an old colleague. He's a sly bugger and one for whom I lost respect when he decided to stick his finger in Vilanova's eye.

There's quite a lot of paranoia here. I don't think Chelsea would want to sign him out of 'spite' or to stop us developing. I think that they actually want him, and it's just taken Mourinho a couple of games of seeing his new squad to realise that.

I they get rid of Moses and Mata then there's no real reason they wouldn't want a player in that position, and unfortunately they have the money to not have to think about it too much.

It's a shame if they take him away from us, but if that's the case then I think Willian will have made a silly decision based on money rather than football and that's his choice. We then need to just move on to our next target.

I think we're just saying they have a lot of similar players who are already used to that set up. There's no doubt that Willian is good enough for their first team squad but they've got a lot of players there or there abouts so with form, the number of games + the ego's etc... chances are he'd get a lot less game time there than he would at ours. Changes slightly if the somewhat crazy rumours are true that they're willing to let Mata go
