Maybe he didn’t get the promotion after the summer and felt he needed to look elsewhere. Seemed like he was well thought of.

If he has indeed been sacked, that feels weird and maybe like he barked up the wrong tree. Think we heard he was willing to call out the folks who don’t know ball when it came to transfers…

Think Sunday shows we need to get more creative midfielders in. Maddison going off shut us down going forward at times. I know we have GLC but I’m not really convinced by either his ability or his desire to stay. A young creative player who can maybe fill in as number 8 alongside madds or instead of him at 10 should be a priority.

Another CB and competition for Maddison need to happen in January

Donley looks like the closest thing to Maddison you'll find. Whether he can make the step up, who knows. But profile-wise, he's spot on.

Lo Celso was absolutely brilliant in his loan spells in Spain and Xavi preferred him to Joao Felix over the summer. He's yet to prove that he can do it in England, but in the right circumstances he's a top player.

For me, it makes sense to give it until the summer to see whether things will work out for Gio under Ange. Even if we determine in the summer that we need to move on from him, we'll be faced with a choice of whether Devine/Donley are ready to step up, or whether we need to go buy a replacement. Eze will (hopefully) be down to a year left on his contract at that time and would be obtainable. It's a position that makes more sense for the summer than for January IMO.

with Son moving inside and perisic injured the left side is looking short. Soloman is too early to judge and Gil, jury still out. Hopefully we’ll go big for a first teamer.

then listed in order of priority, back up CB, back up to Maddison (unless Gio finally shows up) and a back up LB.

We should keep a close eye on Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth been impressed by him so far this season..

Why move on Gil before we know how he fits and works in Ange's revolution? No point in spending money just for the sake of it.
Agree. He may not fit and we may have to move on eventually. But we at least have to give him a chance to show what he can do for this team. He missed the whole pre-season and never had a chance.

I think we should have a look at Antonio Nusa. He's been brilliant for Brugge this season, and is still only 18, so we could give him the Sarr treatment and he would qualify as HG when the time comes.
Yes, I would definitely try for him and also Redondo if PEH leaves.

Get that mate but I wasn't counting Sess.

Gil, Kulu, Solomon and Johnson were the four I was talking about, add in Son and Richarlison and we still have 6 players for 3 places.
Yeah I think we're fine until next summer for sure.

Let's see how Gil does with some game time.

I appreciate I'm getting way ahead of myself but succession planning is key. If we were fortunate to get a european placed finish and even potentially a CL finish, I could see us moving on a Gil or even loaning out Soloman for a real difference maker. A Diaz etc al.

That would be the right thing to do imo. CL of course.

The way he's contributing in the U21s now it's way below his level atm. Believe he has something like 7 goals and 5 assists in 7 games? Those are mental numbers.
That's not saying he would be good enough to start in the first team, but surely he's due some time on the bench soon?

I’d try and bring Andros Townsend in as an emergency replacement for Perisic to come on in last 20 mins with set piece and long range shooting skills. Free agent and one of our own

Ok! Cheers for the clarification. I was going off Donley's dad who posted 7 g 5 a on Twitter the other day, didn't verify

my bad, Transfermarkt did not include the Premier League Cup game against Sunderland where Donley scored a penalty

I clearly can't read  James stated 7 assists and 5 goals. As you said, it's the Sunderland game that's missing. Still 12 G/A in 7 games. Once again, cheers for the clarification
