Didn't the women only get paid more because they won something? If the men had won something as well they'd have been paid a lot more than the women. That's not really equal pay is it?

Possibly but essentially the focus of the lawsuit was on inequality of other factors as well.

I think they should have equal pay as they soon as they can beat the boys u15 team. That seems fair.

Once again, the lawsuit was not about equal pay but about equal working conditions and promotion.

It was, but it was only the pay that was dismissed in court. The case for unfair treatment in travel, housing and medical support will still go to trial, which is set for 16 June.

So it is really mainly the wage bit that is being discussed as the outcome of the rest is still up in the air.

Really not how sports economics works though is it?

The 50th ranked male tennis player would beat the best female tennis player. But the world's best female tennis player earns more. The reason? Probably revenue generated.

If you bother to look into the story and reason for the lawsuit you would see it goes past the generic equal pay discussion.

But for some reason many men are bothered by women players asking for better conditions. Most of the posts in the first 6 pages of this thread are disgusting.

I ain't gonna argue with you mate cause you seem to care. I don't give a fuck about this.
My general view is life's hard, You want equality make your sport more watchable, or appreciate what you got and shut your mouth. If you want more benefits elevate your sport or go work another career.
There's a million causes more worthy of your time than this.

Well it's a discussion board so we are going to discuss the issues presented.

If we only discussed what we believe to be the most worthy cause then there would be very little discussion.

I don't think there is a single reason not to discuss a variety of topics. If I discuss something and say it is wrong this does not mean I think it is the most important subject in the world.

The idea that if people don't like something within their industry they should go work in a different industry rather than push to make changes is beyond fucking ridiculous.

This is not my cause, just a topic for discussion.

Awful attitude to have. You're entitled to disagree, but I simply cannot understand your take on life.

If you don't like something, quit.

Don't fight against wrongs or even discuss them.

If something isn't the biggest issue the world is facing it's not important.

It's an interesting take on life.

I'd have thought winning the world cup would have elevated the sport for the US women.

I'd have thought the 30% increase in viewing figures from the 2015 WC to the 2019 WC would count as the sport being elevated.

I guess not, they should just quit.

Here we go Mr sanctimonious in the house. Why is it ludicrous. If the governing body thought this "cash cow" was so important why haven't they done anything?? Why do these woman have to go to court.
Is it because woman's football is so uncompetitive that even if the whole team quit they could find a whole new team that would be competitive by the next world cup.
Life ain't fair.

What exactly don't you understand?

This whole "shut your mouth and appreciate what you've got because life is hard" approach. Whether you like women's football or not, or whatever sport or entertainment medium you want to use as an example, you can't just expect people to put up and shut up. That's not how life works. If it sucks then do something about it. Improve it. That's how we progress and evolve.

Fair enough. I might of been a bit harsh. I'm more of a you show it, you don't run your mouth kind of dude.
If that don't work you accept it or you roll out.
If their bosses thought they were worth they wouldn't make them go through this.
Let's see how many leave if it doesn't go their way.

No, good point, you suggesting in the other thread that we replace the Women's World Cup with an Animal World Cup was a really considered point. Then in here you compared them to being worse at football than children (boy children obviously, not silly girls who run funny) and suggested that they should just shut up and be appreciative, not sure what of, being allowed to vote and wear long trousers presumably. It doesn't take a qualified psychologist to see you have some things to work out here.

They are going to court because they feel undervalued by their federation, much liek many federations across the world who treat the womens teams like a joke. You want them to make their game more watchable? In terms of profile the women's team is probably bigger than the mens in the US and the last world cup was leaps and bounds bigger and better than the last, what exactly do you want them to do? Aside from shut up and be quiet. They are the players, its their job to play the game not do the marketing.

Full disclosure i dont know the ins and outs, to be honest i only saw this thread because i saw you posted in the sidebar and wanted to see what well thought out contribution you had to offer.

Didn't the women only get paid more because they won something? If the men had won something as well they'd have been paid a lot more than the women. That's not really equal pay is it?

The women were paid differently because they negotiated a different collective bargaining agreement. The USWNT was offered the same deal as the USMNT and turned it down and negotiated a separate deal.

The men's team had things such as getting paid only if they played in a game for the national team (meaning if you are called up and don't play you don't get paid) but also had high bonuses for appearances, performance, winning etc.

The women's team negotiated for a cut of the gate (same as men) but a guaranteed base of $100k (likely because the women'ts pro teams pay near nothing) plus additional pay for all 20 players on the national team along with other options like paid leave and a severance package for players that were cut. But, they would not receive as high a bonus for winning or championships that they won.

The result of these two collective bargaining agreements was that the WNT would get paid more than the men on average (more games played, higher guaranteed wage) but the men had the potential earn more than the women because of the bonus structure they accepted in their CBA. However, the men's team (being all together mediocre) didn't earn many of the bonuses and didn't play in as many games.

This also doesn't address prize money awarded from events like the world cup which is (obviously) going to favor the men's team in pay out.
