No gobbledegook or TV-speak from our new boy:

"We massively contributed to our own downfall," said Woodgate. "We didn't defend well at all, not just the back four but the team in general. You rely a lot on your midfielders as well if they play three up front with one in the hole. You defend as a team and when you are not doing that, you are going to get beaten."

When Martins completed the rout seven minutes from time, it cued a mass exodus of the 36,067 fans. Woodgate added: "I don't blame them for leaving early - I wouldn't have stayed and watched that, would you?"

Clearly Woody is less mystified than Ramos as to why we lost it.

Fair play Woody. I appreciate the honesty. But now that they know what went wrong I'd prefer if it didn't happen again.

We didn't defend well at all, not just the back four but the team in general. You rely a lot on your midfielders as well if they play three up front with one in the hole. You defend as a team and when you are not doing that, you are going to get beaten.

When Berbs lost the ball halfway in Necastle's half and he didn't bother to chase it back, I thought - "Oh shit lets hope they don't score", as he was playing deep behind Keane and Bent which means that if he doesn't track back he leaves a hole in the midfield as we had only 3 players in there, what happened next was Necastle advancing on the flang then threding the ball to Butt who was unmarked outside of the box and it was 1:1.

So Ramos got it wrong - if he wants to play with 2 strikers and Berbs behind them against a good midfield (or crowded one) he needs to pull one of the CDs out of the D and play with 3 there, and have 4 in the midfield instead to plug the holes.

I also think Ramos needs to leave Berbs on the bench for a bit so Berbs doesn't get too cocky about how good he is.

He might have been frustrated yesterday but it doesn't mean he's got the right of not helping his team defend.

Agreed.. and when i saw Berb and Keane cleared the ball from corner.. they looked so casual as if we're winning the game 5-0.. From that moment onwards i know we are gonna be fxxked.. and we did..

I don't remember the goal like that - I remember Steed hitting a terrible pass which had Berb doing his 'hurt artist' impression - but it was deffo Steed's fault - (maybe I remember wrong - if I get time I'll recheck the goal

re woody - I really like his interviews in general (though I think he should ease up on his views on Boro a little - but hey I wouldn't tell him that :)

of course woody was one of our worst players yesterday and some of his mistakes were down to him pure and simple - but his overall point is valid

That performance won't be doing his England chances any favours, but the whole team were terrible pretty much and i'd still have him in there with Rio instead of that Pikey prick. You don't see him running across the whole field like a petulant schoolboy screaming at the ref.

Rio i've always though a top player but far too complacent at times. Hopefully he will get a few more games as captain and this will improve his concentration due to more responsibility.

Sorry to go off topic here a little but it's what came into my head. As for Woodgate, like i said before in another thread a little while back, the guy actually has a brain which is rare for a footballer.

Well, whatever it might have happened he wasn't interested in chasing back and this is what I clearly remember.

fair enough Boris :) that you remember clearly and correctly - but you're the not the first to try and blame Berbs for the goal, but it wasn't his fault - it's not his fault if steed didn't hit a relatively simple pass correctly

on the blame game, after Steed comes woody he easily could have done better with his clearance - and then maybe just maybe a little blame on robbo (hardly any tho if at all - it just does grate to see such a weak shot go in - but probably robbo was unsighted)

I thought it got a deflection of Woody which gave Robbo no chance really. Might be wrong

I don't blame him for the goal, but it all started with him not being intersted to defend at that moment - were his legs tired for a second-two, was he frustrated, I have no idea or maybe his mind got tired so right there he forgot that he was playing midfield kinda role and we ended up having few against many.

I have never seen us starting like that before, or maybe we have in games i haven't watched, so Ramos must have had something in mind but it didn't work out in this game. Now they got 7 more games to figure out what went wrong and try to fix it.
