Didn't get to see the first half but saw most of the second, he was the man of the match imo as well, cleared everything up, great defensive performance and a great debut. If we can keep him fit and get Ledley playing a few more games, it's looking very promising.

Good point earned when we were under the cosh for most of the first half. We finished the game stronger as well.

Boring, I though this was going to be a thread about Toy Story.

Watched the game tonight, and I can tell you Woodgate was foot perfect, mature, reads the game well, nice passer of the football, good in the air, strong in the tackle. keeper had 2 saves to make all night, against a team, albeit weakened tonight, challenging for Champions League football. If Woodgate had played sunday, IF, we would be playing United again in the FA cup replay, makes Dawson look like a cart horse I am sorry to say. Rest of the defence including Huddlestone were immaculate too.

Very assured debut and looked quality and Daws would do well to watch his positioning and learn about his using of his body to get the ball. Unlucky to get carded and they mentioned that he was holding his calf and may be injured which would be both annoying and ironic.
A player we all know can perform when injury free and will be a great asset for us.

I got the impression from the radio that the Hudd did very little wrong and quite a lot right, just like Sunday. It also seemed that Woody was winning everything against Anichebe in the air and that made them put Anichebe, not Johnson, against the Hudd.

But if Woody can stay fit he's going to turn out to be a snip on tonight's performance.

Even if that's his fifth booking of the season I think he'll miss the Derby match on Saturday week instead of Man U.

Yup the commentators mentioned that he was having a problem with his calf and he didn't go up for the two or three corners we had in the game. According to a Boro fan on another board, Woodie hardly goes up for corners cos his legs are shattered. Hope that's not the case cos with Chimbo being ousted from the team we'll lack attacking threats at set pieces.

I only caught the second half and Woodie looked assured. Reminded me of Dawson on top of his game, without the errors. He left most of the distribution to Huddlestone, who incidentally, is impressing me at CB.

Looking forward to seeing Woodie/King play together at the weekend, fingers crossed!

He misses the Derby game thru his 5th card tonight.
Historically the weaker part of his game is in the opposing pen area, a natural defender but not attacking wise. It more his lack of threat in the opposing box than his legs can't run up and back.

I only saw the 2nd half, but yeah, looked very assured and composed at the back, made an important last minute challenge (ie, toe poke away) when Cerny was gonna come then stopped, leaving Woodgate in trouble and a striker through on goal, but, he reacted quickly and just got a toe poke away for a corner...Good defending...Its what we've missed in our away games, its a shame our midfield looked well and truly trumped...no invention, gave the ball away in good and bad areas, Steed was pretty much terrible, looked very tired...If the game tells us about the transfer window, it says we've gor a good defender in that we've needed badly, and that our midfield still isn't good enough, no bite and no style..lets hope Tiago isn't out of reach just yet..

Well, I hope its not cos of his physical condition too.

We didn't miss his presence at set pieces too much today cos we had Berba, KPB, Hudd and Chimbs up.

But if you take our new best 11, It'll have to be Berba + the two CBs + Hutton who's tall but not sure about his attacking threat.

We all know Woodgate has had lots of injury problems, but that quote about "shattered legs" has to be sour grapes from Boro fans. We paid c£7 million, plus £50k per week wages, plus huge incentives ('cos that was apparently a pay cut for young Jonathan). There's no way we'd have splashed that cash on a player with "shattered legs".

Just watching the match on Football First, and Woodgate does look very assured. He also talks and organizes, unlike Dawson who only opens his mouth to catch flies. Let's hope whatever personal fitness and nutrition regime Alvarez et al devise for Woodgate gets him fitter than he was at Boro....

Woodgate was class tonight. Stood out in a poor game, led the defence superbly seeing as he can hardly have trained with his new team-mates. Very, very impressive.
