Can’t say I’m crazy about this but when Conte uses a midfield 3 he likes his creative player at the base if I remember correctly. So maybe that explains why YT is seen as a better option than say a true AM

To be honest they aren’t similar at all. Tielemans has a much greater passing range and is a better technician in general with fantastic ball striking (on the other hand Bentancur cannot shoot). He has final third quality but is far less useful defensively than Bentancur who covers loads of ground and is an excellent ball winner.

Yeah he is, Palace got him from QPR who got him from Millwall when he was 18 I think.

In 259 professional appearances, Bentancur has racked up 4 goals and 25 assists.

In 408 professional appearances, Tielemans has racked up 65 goals and 58 assists.

They are not similar players.

Not particularly sold on Tielemans so not too fussed if we have moved on from him. Can see why we'd take a look seeing as he in the last year of his contract and comes with EPL experience but I don't think he has really pushed from the earlier promise from his younger days.

From my perspective, this is a positive development as there didn’t seem to be obvious or significant benefits to bringing Tielemans in.
