Mirror reporting #England youth intl 19yo Zeki Fryers to head to#Spurs after #MUFC deal expires (end of month).

Plays left Back and Centre Back coming out of contract on 30 June (so available for a 'development fee' payableto ManU), long rumoured to be declining to sign new contract at ManU. Dob 9/9/1992 so 19 going onto 20 - would count as under 21 under Premiership rules for next 2 seasons, but would need to be in squad of 25 under UEFA rules.

Spurs have a shortage of LB's after BAE and Bale (and Gallasa/King) - Rose is a LW covering LB, Naughton & Smith are RB's who could cover LB, further back in the squad, Byrne is a RB covering LB, Stewart is right footer who plays CB/RB and LB and its only in Academy Year 1 (soon to be Year 2 ) that we get to Oiliver Modeste as a left sided defender playing LB and CB (and he's the one who was in intensive care who we hope to see back in pre-season) and then in the new Academy Year 1, Connor Ogilvie (recently called up foir E u 15 squad) also plays LB and CB.

So Zek Fryers could certainly fill a hole in the conveyor belt of talent vying for First Team places in a year or two, possibly providing cover for BAE next season ?

Potentially good catch if true

What exactly is a "development fee"? Would he not be a free agent? I've no idea how these things work... (n)

If a player is under 24 they cannot leave a club on a "free" transfer. If the two clubs concerned cannot agree a fee then the matter goes to a tribunal for the fee to be decided ( think Bostock from Palace) The developmental fee is compensation to the selling club for their work with a young player.

Ah I see. Thank you.

So, Fryers is an England youth LB/CB, and rumors we also have Lascalles coming, who if I read correctly is an England youth CB/RB. Future is bright.

Yeah slap in Verts and Caulker, and we are sorted for some time in defence. Hopefully.:)

It's funny how youngsters are getting wise at big clubs like Man Utd, knowing that they'll never get a game there they seem to move on early these days. Interesting.

If they are good enough they will get a game

Fryers is older than Phil Jones who is a first team regular

That doesn't mean Freyers is shit. He's got to dislodge Patrice Evra, who's pretty much one of the top 3 left backs in the league. Even though he's not as good as he once was.

Plus Phil Jones is over-hyped due to his time at Blackburn. Is he really any better than, say, Steven Caulker? Time will tell, I suppose.

I've never been at all impressed by Rose, so would be happy to give this kid a shot at understudying BAE instead (especially if we have Verts able to cover there too - important as it is a ACN year).

Think the attraction of Spurs to him is that Spurs have an immediate vacancy in 'his' position of left back (as outlined in OP), so if he is any good he can get into the first team squad 'relatively' easily whereas at Man U there is far more competition for defensive positions.

Additionallly suspect Spurs prepared to pay more to 'fill' the hole in their conveyor belt of talent than ManU who have more alternatives at the moment.

Agreed - but do not forget possible cover from Naughton and Smith, both RB's who can cover LB. So if we get both Vertoranghen and Fryers we would be pretty well covered even if Benni goes to ACN.

Like the idea of getting Fryers in. Much better to have specialist left back rather than rely on players playing slightly out of position as back up.

What would worry me is that he's clearly using us as a means of upping his salary. If he's got the stones to try and hold Man Utd to ransom at such an early age, what's he gonna be like when (if) he becomes an established first teamer at Spurs. Has a whiff of Ashley Cole about him.

Sounds good.

Odd that he's looking to leave Man U though, but can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

If he's good enough he'll get opportunities to stake a claim covering for BAE who isn't going to be able to play every game.

I would like to see Fryers and Naughton as backup for Ekotto and Walker next season.

BAE is probably 4th best lb in premiership after

1)Baines
2)Cole
3)Evra

So Fryers will have to be patient and bide his time, I am sure he could get a few Europa and Carling games this season though
