Mourinho does like to press teams...if he has the players. He explained it himself on his Inter team....our current squad incidentally is evolving like that squad. Getting in Lucio, he played his backline 20m further forward in 2009/10. He had a very attack minded RB in Maicon and defensive left back in Zanetti. Cambiasso was the sitting MF who reads situation and passes long after recovery. I am not saying Hojbjerg is Cambiosso like but role he will play should be similar.

Question on whether he will press or not will be answered by if he gets Skriniar. If he gets him, I cant see us playing up field. Our faster CBs are Sanchez & Tanganga. So it will also be fascinating how these 2 will be used.
Skriniar isn't lighting, but he's not slow, and is likely to have no problem playing in a high line. Spalletti has always played a high line game with moderate pressing and he thrived under Spalletti. Conte players with a fairly deep line, he likes his pitch nice and big for his counters, and Skriniar struggles more. Like. Also Lucio was hardly quick.

Anyway, Jose can play with a higher line but never played with a real high line or ever play a particularly pressing team, and that wll continue.

Found the article. Interesting read.

This paragraph is what I've wanted from us for a long time. Not all the time, but more than we've ever been:

“The approach was very simple, and the team became really adapted. Not just to keep dominating Serie A, but to become the kind of strong, cynical, intelligent, pragmatic team that could do it against the best in Europe.”

Is Aurier really? He is a good athlete but he can’t defend, cross or retain concentration. Not exactly traits I’m looking for in a right back tbh. I’m still disappointed we didn’t play Walker-Peters over him if I’m honest
Huh, is Aurier really what? You said i'd be a good replacement and I said I am a good footballer but not a right back lol.

I don't really rate Aurier but since Jose came in he's been fairly solid to be honest but i've never heard of this bloke so the question i had was, is Zeki Çelik going to be an upgrade on Aurier?

Not seen much of Celik, would rather we were in for Mbabu from Wolfsburg who would probably be more cheaper and more attainable

And is homegrown due to his time at Newcastle if I remember correctly. Not seen enough of mbabu or celik to comment on who would be stylistically better for us though

What if we sold Aurier and got in Aarons and Celik? Would keep the same number of international players while adding a homegrown.

That would be great but can't see either of them agreeing to coming here to be back up and given our very limited budget would imagine it will be one of them at most with Tanganga as back up.

Yeah a good analysis he is solid but unspectacular. We want some like MA as well to give us a more attacking option on that side.

The upside of only signing one new right back would be to have a settled back 4 which I think is vital if we want to solidify our leaky defence.

If we signed Celik and Aarons I would imagine we would see a lot of rotation, plus I can't see where Tangnaga would get minutes as he will be 4th choice rmcentre back at best.

Difficult balancing act, especially if you want competition for places and contingency for injuries but you also want to give players enough game time.
