TSH, you really are unfairly biased against Zokora for some reason.
Zokora is a very good defensive midfielder and I believe he showed that against Chelsea on Sunday.
I saw the interview with Poyet with my own eyes, infact I saw the whole feed as I work at the BBC, I'm not calling him a liar. Its just the way the questions were put to him mean his anwers can be interpreted in a different way.
I guess we i will see in two weeks how wel will line up, but I just don't think our shape will be pure 442 in the way it was last season and under Jol.
Christ our bench is going to be young.
GK: Gomes
RB: Corluka
CB: King
CB: Woodgate
LB: Bale
DM: Zokora
RW: Bentley
AM: Modric
CM: Jenas
LW: Giovani
ST: Pavlyuchenko
That's the thing though. He isn't a very good defensive midfielder.
If you take Makalele as the model of a good defensive midfielder you'd say they have to have good positioning and control and the ability to spot the simple but effective pass quickly.
For me Zokora's positioning is woeful and his control is notoriously bad. On top of that he rarely passes it forwards which would be fine as long as he made the sideways passes quickly...but he takes an age over them.
As a right back I think Zokora was our best player in the first two games and I think in a five man midfield he's ok.
But in a 4-4-2 I've seen him be mediocre for two years alongside Jenas. I'm not sure that playing alongside a player who runs around less will make Zokora a better player.
