How the hell have we gone from one very consistent defender to some young bloke who can run fast but cant defend and gets caught out positionally?

Who exactly at our club is responsible for this?

You are not looking at the big picture. Our team is better looking than it has been for a long time. Thats what were after.

Yeah, him and Gilbeto have to be the worst left sided pairing on the planet at the moment, my old pub sunday league team had more fight and could actually pass a ball, even when they were hungover from a saturday night bender. I'll give them a call and see if they wanna play.

fair point SLY

as I saying all summer (trademark DC_Boy :) I wasn't convinced by our LB situation and thought it needed strenghtening - I was told repeatedly it wasn't an issue and I understood that it did seem a bit de trop to buy yet another LB given that we had 3 - but as I kept saying there are question marks against all 3 - and so are there still

gilberto is a mistake - full stop - not even a question mark any more - that leaves the iffy BAE and Bale -

mmm so is the LB a problem slot - It still seems to be one to me

I once got slated on here for saying we should just drag BAE out the back and sling him in a skip but I stand by those words.
I have more distain for him than any other Spurs player I can recall, I will gladly mow him down if ever I see him crossing the street

What does that have to do with letting a decent player and great servant rot in the reserves and then flogging him leaving us with the utter shite that is BAE?

Tbh I was disgusted at the way YLP was treated. Similar story with Lennon and Defoe....and surely Rocha is not that much worse than Dawson? All this talk of it being a meritocracy and Ramos not playing favourites.BOLLOX! If he likes you, you can do no wrong...if he doesnt you could score five overhead kicks from the half way line and you'll still be on the bench next game.

Id take Wipey every single day of the week over that pig BAE, who is not only an atrociously substandard footballer but6 has an absolutely disgraceful attitude and non-existent work ethic.

What? I can only hope you mean looks in terms of attractiveness. Even then, you're wrong. :)

On paper our team looks great... On the pitch our team looks worse than it has for about 10 years...

I would not have sold YPL, Chimbo, Tainio and Malbranque. They would add some consistency and resolve to our current bunch of weaklings.

I'm prepared to give BAE a bit more time. He was decent on Wednesday, crap today, but he's had effectively 18 months out so I wouldn't write him off.

Don't blame anyone but Ramos, SLY. He played any bugger but Lee at LB last season, mostly Chimbonda—and I thought we'd established that Chimbonda was hopeless there when Jol tried him for a couple of games the season before last. At least Jol had the excellent excuse of having virtually no choice in the matter.

I do hope none of the 'Lee is crap' brigade don't bemoan his departure. I remember who some of them are.

Bale needs an able deputy.

BAE is not it. Lee was decent but he wasn't it either as he didn't have a left foot.

I'd like to see us go for the Russian Yuri Zhirkov.

He'd give Bale some real competition.

Bale doesn't need competition .

All he needs is to remain injury free .

And I'd rather see him in midfield than defence .

Well he doesn't need competition - but he does need a deputy.

Not sure whether he's a LB or LM just yet.

Lee and Bale on the left would have worked far better for us yesterday. Or Lee and Malbranque. Or Lee and Me. Or Lee and Herring. Anyone really. I don't know why Ramos had such a problem with him. Seems very strange considering he was consistently one of our better players for 2 of our most successful seasons. Fit, fast, hardworking, decent defender.
Maybe Ekotto will make the grade, though. He has shown glimpses of real talent and I would certainly rather play him than Gilberto. Never both, though. Why both yesterday? Did we seriously have no better LM option? Modric, Lennon and Giovanni all sat on the bench. I hope we never ever see that again.
