Good. He should be maybe not fed up but driven to try and improve to be able to beat them next time. The if you can't beat them join them attitude is rife in football these days. Players join a club play pretty well individually and then decide that they deserve better because they lose to better teams. It is basically searching for an easier job with a higher reward (in terms of money and trophies). It doesn't always work out personally though, just ask Berba.

The great situation we have now is that right now we can't seem to beat them but the players are looking around at each other in to coin Defoe's phrase they are 'in awe' of the players they are working with. You think that those players might just realise that they are onto a good thing and knuckle down work harder and try to get better and grow with the obvious huge potential we have? You have to hope that players like Modric, Lennon and Bale realise that maybe the best way to get to where they want to be isn't to join them but to push themselves harder to beat them. That way they have a huge opportunity to not only win a few trophies and get a nice bit of cash at the same time, but become part of something truely great, part of a club's folklore, a piece of a club's history. Maybe just maybe they can look around at each other and see that with a lot of hard work they can really achieve it all with us.

That's beautiful man...

thing is - is berbs glad he went to utd?

he's got a prem medal to add to his collection he wouldn't have got at spurs

he's played in a team that reached a champs lge final - ditto

he's won another lge cup medal - may have got that one with us - agreed

so I'm not sure what Berbs would say

and he may well add another title medal to his collection very shortly - while chelsea are favs it's not impossible pool getting a point or 3 at anfield and scuppering their title hopes

You might be right DC, you probably are. he definitely wouldn't have won the title with us in the last 2 seasons. But if he had stayed how close to glory do you think he could have got with us?

The problem for Berbatov is as I said in the previous response, he did well for us then decided to move to somewhere that he could win. Problem is that he is almost a fringe player there and in the grand scheme of things in 10 years when United look back on this era he isn't going to even be in a conversation. So what becomes of him after his career is over? He isn't going to be paraded around WHL to rapturous applause at half time as iconic players of the past have, he isn't going to at United either or likely anywhere else. He'll end up feeding his squirrels and will become just another player who played a part in a winning machine with about as much recognition as Poborsky or Kleberson.

Yes he has moved to United and won some trophies and will be forgotten. The likes of Modric, Bale, Lennon and all the current group we have now see the talent we have day in, day out. They might just think they can win things and become icons. In the grand scheme of English football do you think players that are involved in a team that wins a title for the first time in generations is going to be remembered more than a bit part in a team that has won much in recent times? I do.

I think he regrets it. He seemed to want to be a star and also wanted the accomplishments to "prove it" that he didn't think he would get at Spurs. But he was a bigger star at Spurs because though the team accomplishments were smaller, he was main man in achieving them. At Man United he's a squad player, the team isn't built around him, and I'm sure his misses the adoration of the fans. I think it really is a cautionary tale to other glory-seekers.

Additionally, Fergie will likely retire in the next couple seasons, and hopefully afterwards United will return to being only the sum of their parts, instead of the mythic beast that seems to always get the result no matter how dire the performance that they often appear to be now.

Also...Modric rules, Carrick is nothing special, and no Spurs fan should be okay with feeding United again. If a key player refuses to extend a contract they can go abroad.

But this does underscore the importance of getting 4th.

I agree with everything you say but we live in an era that's all about getting rich now, don't wait til tomorrow,I want it all and I want it all now.
If I had the opportunity I would play for Spurs until I died but for guys from Bulgaria and Croatia, its about playing for the best now and getting the best chance at winning medals!

I have asked the same thing a number of times in the past about Carrick and Berbatov - will they be remembered with reverence at United in years to come? Definitely not!
Could they have been legends at Spurs forever? Probably

Crazy. Surely Michael Dawson is ManU's number one target ?

That dimwit Ferguson obviously doesn't log on to SC.

The gap was definitely bigger when Carrick left. It was still very significant when Berbatov left. There is still a gap, but in terms of potential and individual quality it is diminishing. If we were an aging mid-table squad that doesn't appear to be going anywhere (which has been the case at times in the last 15 years) then OK if you are really good enough, move on and win a few medals. The difference is the quality and the age of our current squad they have to believe that there is a chance to compete with the best and make history and shower themselves in glory at the same time. I think right now we are an attractive proposition for not only our own players but many others too.

Carrick has won - what 3 titles and and a CL medal with manu?

i'm pretty sure he's glad he left - but maybe wrong of course

berbs - who knows - not me - maybe not himself

as for modric, we can only hope he thinks it's good to stay with us

I really can't see us winning the title anytime soon but it's good some on here are optimistic - let's hope luka is like that - if the players really believe and the crowd get behind them at the Lane then it becomes a little more possible

let's see how the crowd is today - this is the the stuff of title winners, beating a team like bolton,

let's see the crowd putting in a title-winning performance - not go comatose as often the lane does v mid/low table oppo - not get on the players' backs if the early goal doesn't come etc

for us to win the title it will require all sorts of mini-miracles, leaps of faith, levels of achievement on a weekly basis we're not used to at spurs

it'd be wonderful to see it happen -

I'm afraid ATM most outsiders looking in on such ambitions would see us like Caesar pushing past Cassandra - 'He is a dreamer. Let us leave him.'

but even Caesar made mistakes ....

yeah even though we've had a good season and hopefully we'll get 4th this year, next year we could be 5th again and we could be light years away from winning the league

Some people on here need to face reality, unfortunatley until we become a regular champs league team players will see us as a stepping stone to a bigger club, unproven players getting 1st team football at a decent team to earn a move, berbatov's a perfect example of this

A colleague just approached me and told me he spoke to Defoe last night (he's known him for years) and apparently when asked about Modric, Defoe said that Modric has told other squad members he wants to play for Utd, and that the squad didn't take too kindly to that.

The colleague I'm on about is 50 yrs old and a Spurs fanatic, and not a WUM as far as I'm aware. He definitely does know Defoe but whether Defoe was winding him up or not, who knows. I still don't think he'd leave for some reason, despite all that.

Oh well. Hopefully it's all shit, somehow.

Thanks for passing on the info and I'm not doubting your honesty but I just can't think for the life of me why Modric would ever ever say that to his team mates. To anyone in fact. Except maybe his agent.

Makes absolutely no sense.

Incidently, to all the people that think we should cash in on Modders - if Man U want to buy him then maybe, just maybe it's because he is fecking quality. I mean, Man U! The best team in Premiership history. If a player of ours is good enough for them why the fuck would we want to lose him?

Spurs already got DM in Sandro, Thud, Palacios and people on here still want a 4th DM in Carrick

He may be a bit more offensive than the 3 others but still not the offensive threat Spurs need. And not much, if at all, better than Thud and Palacios. He's lost his place to Fletcher, so why not ask for Fletcher instead

However, if ManU really wants him, I doubt Spurs will be able to stop him - unfortunately.

Carrick didn't lose his place to Fletcher he lost it to Gibson and Scholes.

If you ask any player in our squad whether they want to play for Manchester United then the answer will be yes .

(cept maybe Lennon , Woodgate but then again Alan Smith did) .

I'd be more worried if they said no , or at least disinclined to believe it .

More money , more chances of winning , chance to play for Alec Ferguson , one of the 3 biggest clubs in the World .

Should be able to hold on to Modric for another year or two .

A colleague at the MEN didn't confirm anything outright. He just stated what we all know which is that Ferguson admires the player.

I'll reiterate my early statement. I like Modric, I rate Modric, but for me if you really want to get the absolute best out of the player we have to play him in a three man midfield.

What role would he play in a three man midfield? I don't honestly think we have the players to play a 433 or 451.
