Any thoughts on the swap deals that POTL mentioned?

Arda < > Gio is the obvious one that has been talked about for a few months and can happen now Gio's 2 year Barca sell on clause has expired.

Pav moving to somewhere else in Europe is likely.

O'Hara < > Parker I guess is an outside possibility.

Not sure there's anyone Villa would let leave who would improve us re Keane and Jenas though.

I've heard we're looking to swap Jenas for a Burger Van

From Scutch's hints, it sounds like one could be Elia (could be a forward but not his preferred position).

Joey55, the source for all things Hamburg, had a great post on this earlier in the silly season, informing us that Elia spent most of the second half of the season as a striker and doing quite a bang up job of it.

Can't see us swapping gio for anyone, world cup and pre season have given hope that this coming season will be a good one for him, which would either give us a top signing effectively, or at least a very valuable player if he wants off. He has three years left, we've spent two trying to coax our his potential, now would bevtge worst time to ship him out, especially in exchange for effectively an unknown who may well be inferior.

We've been patient, we should reap the rewards. From his own comments he recognises he want doing enough before.

Worried that Harry singled out modric bale and daws for praise bur not gio when gio had a very good game

Don't forget him and Arda played for the same side last season and there was absolutely no contest as to who was the superior player and prospect.

We've obviously had 2 years to look at Gio now and thanks to the WC I doubt his stock will ever be higher, if we have decided he's not going to make it.

I'd love us to sign Arda Turan, but not at the expense of Giovani, unless it was a loan deal only on the part of Giovani. He's perhaps not as technically gifted as Turan, nor does he have the experience and international quality of the Turk, but he's got a massive future ahead of him and I hope we try our best to hang on to him this summer and give him plenty of game time should the situation arise. Turan is a superb player, mind.

The other swap deals being mentioned are of course the deadwood <> Ashley Young, and Giovani again <> Huntelaar. Can't see that happening. I also think a deal for Parker would be cash only.

We're obviously looking to swap Taarabt for Messi.

Elia looked a real prospect at the World Cup. He fits in with the type of strikers we've been linked with aswell. Someone who could play as a wide left attacker.

It's his top quality Spurs videos that have contributed towards that

Yea right. I was almost going to suggest he sell them to the club, they could have used it on the rather disappointing DVD.

From the Tim Sherwood article in Spurs Chat:

Sherwood feels that qualification for the group stages of the Champions League represents the next realistic step forward for Redknapp's side, and he is urging Tottenham to focus their attention on the upcoming qualifiers, rather than being distracted by talk of the Premier League crown.

"It's a gradual building process and we took a massive step last year," he said. "If we can win this qualifier in the Champions League it's a massive bonus because it brings revenue into the club and hopefully allows us to add to the already great squad that we've got."

Says it all really.

No MAJOR signing till the last week of the window....hopefully.

Irons in the fire until then me thinks.....

You are comparing one player who was playing for his hometown club, in the league he has always played in, a country he speaks the language in, with another who was on loan in an unfamiliar country, and whose confidence was at a low ebb after injuries.

There is so much more to understanding footballers than what you see on the pitch, the mental side of the game is about 90% of what makes them successful or not.

Can you quantify that statement?
