I like Kalinic too. I wouldn't have him as the first choice striker just yet, but he would be a great young up and coming striker full of potential. He would thrive in an attacking team like ours in the future. He looks so frustrated at times up front for Blackburn.

I'd take Vucinic and Kalinic for Keane and Crouch in the long run. Vucinic for Keane in this window, Kalinic for Crouch in the next one.

None of our strikers are crap. Its just that neither is anything special, or on the same level as VDV, Bale and Modric.

What we really need is a Klinsmann/Sheringham/Keane/Berbatov level of striker. Someone technical and intelligent. Which is why I dont understand the talk about Carroll, who is best suited to ugly football.

I agree, but I think Carroll might have a bit more to his game than you think. Arsenal have Chamakh, Chelsea have Drogba after all...

I was far from impressed with what I saw from Carroll yesterday.

Good striker yes, but he is not top class. He is very physical and will always put himself about and be a handful. Long term though I don't see him developing into a Drogba or a Shearer, he is more of a Duncan Ferguson and best suited to teams who want to employ a bullish style of football with a big brute upfront.

Personally I want someone more techincally gifted with the class and intelligence of a BErbatove or a Klinsmann.

Don't get me wrong I do see the merits in Carroll's game, I just don't think he is top class and for the money touted we would want someone top class.

7 pages on a throw away comment by HR. Nice!

I think that it's the excitment that we all feel we are only a 'special' forward away from being a top top side and the fact that our Chairman also sees this and is as excitied as us is a wonderful thing. Even more so when you look at a number of other clubs that don't have money available to them.

Whether we get the siad 'special' player is a different matter though!

He got banned for attacking someone in the tunnel after a game, although the original 4 month ban was reduced to 4 matches. Has got 18 goals in 24 games including 13 in 13 in the league, but temperament seems iffy. I've always preferred Falcao when I've watched Porto play, he's much better at link up play.
I don't think I'd like him when he was angry then.

and we have Crouch.

I'd take Carroll over Crouch if he was going cheap. But I wouldn't consider him a first team regular. Just an option for certain games like Crouch is. He'd be far too expensive for a squad player though.

I want us to win in style like we have on a number of occassions this season. It is good to have that type of big nuisance up front if you cant win in style though.

But since we signed Van Der Vaart and gone with 2 wingers we seem to be able to win in style against ugly teams like we did yesterday.

Is he looking to weaken the team then Fazza?

I'd imagine if we were to move for Elmander then we would do so in the knowledge that Keane and or Crouch would be leaving in January, and our Main targets were unatainable till the summer.

or is that doing Elmander an injustice? I actually rate him highly, but he isnt a world beater. He isnt the next level footballer to spearhead the second half of the season title run-in, that we are in!

Better than Keane, Obvious choice if we are after a bargain and offloading Keane.

You answered the question: You are referring to the Keane that cannot get a place on the pitch, let alone the bench, and HR has suggested should look at leaving.

Why are we assuming Elmander would want to leave Bolton? He's struck up a very good partnership with Davies and seems to be enjoying his football. No way he would leave them in January.

quite the opposite. Bolton have made it clear that they will not be paying what he is asking for, regarding renewing the contract that is up in the summer.

In fact, Gartside has gone on record to say they NEED to sell either Cahill or Elmander!

His contract ends this summer if he was that enthusiastic about Bolton surely he would have signed a new one by now
