It makes me very sad that Defoe seems to be half the player he used to be. Where has the hunger gone?

As for Crouch, the sooner he is sold the better for my blood pressure.

Always said that Keane and Defoe worked best when they were fighting for the same place. Once the competition for the place was removed, both with Defoe's move to Pompey and Defoe being favoured by Harry on the return of both players, both players suffered. Hopefully any new striker signing will get Defoe back on track by giving him a much needed kick up the arse. Crouch also needs to be put back in his best position, as Plan B. So much sodding about, so few goals. Thank fuck our midfield has stepped up at last.

Problem is that Keane has not only lost what he had, but i couldn't see how he could play with VDV, he lacks pace, ariel threat and would constantly drop deep in the area where vdv likes to play.

Defoe is the answer, but i do admit he needs to start scoring, and soon.

I agree with most of the first paragraph, but I don't think he'd constantly drop deep if he was the main forward, just like he didn't when partnered with Berba because it was Berba who dropped deep instead. A lack of pace and ability in the air, combined with not being great at holding the ball up, means that in those departments he is quite suitable to Peter Crouch. One thing, though, that he is undoubtedly in another league compared to Crouch is in offering an ability to finish.

Defoe should be the answer, and I do like the little guy, but he does need to get out of his rut. I'm sure once he does he'll start scoring regularly, but right now he's very snatchy.

Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd:
"The difference was Taarabt.
"He's an exceptional player, I was tempted to run on and kick him myself at one stage. He was absolutely terrific.
"How do you stop him? I'm not really bothered now, we've played them twice.
"He didn't do much at our place and I don't think he did too much today, but then suddenly he hits a 40-yard pass with the outside of his foot and you have to admire it.
"With that talent you have to ask why haven't Barcelona or Real Madrid picked up the phone to sign him

There you go mate, thats the real quote right there

and this is where I disagree. Defoe has never been a regular scorer. He has purple patches and droughts. While he scored 22 goals last season it was in only in 15 or so games (9 goals came in 2 games), so for his games played against games scored in, you can see he isn't a regular scorer.

We ideally need a striker who is more likely to find the net regularly than relying on Defoe or Crouch.

I want Pav to get a decent run but failing that try Gio or Keane or even Krankjar. Hell I would even say Lennon over Crouch

for taarrabt read etherington

QPR will come up he will play well as they go back down and he will replace etherington at stoke.

not Cl material IMHO.

Keane should never have returned - at his pinnicale with berba - never going to regain that form - should go to new pastures WBA would suit him.

crouch definately keep him but in EPL has to be a benchwarmer - Cl he comes alive.

defoe - our enigma - should be world class but not quite. needs a partner

dos santos - addios amegio wrong time wrong club shame look great in worls cup. season loan in italy and come back maybe??

VDV - is he a stiker or not- that is the question - when he plays wide right in 4 4 2 drift s in ande we lose width but we as A TEAM PLAY WELL.

in a 4 4 1 1 - at his best

BUT

if we are to have two wide men surely a target is needed.

And that earmarks two young englishmen for me.

Taarabt is not good enough to have a top 5 team built around him and that's what he would want. There is a reason why he only looks good in the championship.

Our strikers are all Internationals.

The problem is:

Bale, Hudd, Modric and Lennon are simply not providing the style of balls they need.

People say our strikers are going to make us miss 4th, I believe it is our toothless predictable buildup that is costing us 4th.

Crouch and Defoe scored fine at Portsmouth with the same manager.

Yup. I agree.

Modric? Shit

Lennon? England International? Should be playing for S****horpe?

Bale? No better than Ruel Fox.

Hudd? Hudd who? Is he that bad I haven't heard of him?

Bastards, the lot of them.

Thats all hilarious, until you add their total assists this season in the Prem and realize Nani has more as an individual.

To score a goal, you need an assist. And the goal is not near the corner pin. If it was, we would be top.

You have to finish off an assist to call it an assist. If we had more goals we'd have more assists. Right now we just have a lot of unfinished moves.

Why is he always coming into midfield?

Because the ball is never going directly to him. Because we pass into space down the wings. And that is not where our strikers operate.

Keano was scoring for fun on loan. He knows where the goal is. Our midfield simply does not know/care where he is.

I doubt he thinks our midfield is awful either.

I think our midfield is excellent. I just think they need different roles/shape to be effective going forwards. We are very effective at going sideways, or down the wings, after that it tends to break down.

So explain how Bent also failed to finish off with Modders, Hudd, Lennon and Bale (albeit at LB).

It's a real problem, we have strikers that thrive on through balls down the middle, and we are pulling them every way but forwards.

You don't really deal well with explanations so I'll save that little portion of my life for something else ta very much

I wish someone would assist you.
