Our awful strikers

The top scorer among our strikers this season is Roman Pavlyuchenko, who has scored 5 goals in 17 appearances.

Jermain Defoe has yet to score a league goal this season at all. He has made 8 appearances.

Peter Crouch should, frankly, be shot for having the record of 1 league goal all season. He has made 22 appearances.

I recognise that terrifying hand looming at me out of the darkness - been busy, Mr Gred?

Be a bit ironic really if 3mp was shot - finished off by the one thing he appears unable to do this year. JD, i'm still not sure - he's managed to stop slamming every single shot right at the keepers chest, but i watch him play and he seems to spend most of his time going to collect the ball out wide. A symptom of him being used to playing 2 up front i expect, as he's definitely not cut out to be the lone striker.

Pav needs a run in the team like Crouch gets and we'd have far more goals.

agreed, but Harry seems to bring up the fact that Pav's English sucks at every given opportunity so, whilst it annoys me a bit that we're wasting someone with so much promise, it also grinds my gears that our current best goalscorer doesn't get games because of this.

Is him not starting so much Harry trying to make a point? Learn to speak English and i'll pick you more often? Vicious circle if that is the case as, if he did have that run in the team, it would also benefit his English massively for getting to know the on-pitch banter, etc.

I think he's lazy in training. Lot's of ITKs say that the Spurs coaches recognise that Pav has talent but they're frustrated trying to get him to show it consistently and maybe Harry feels that his lack of English is another symptom of that laziness.

Certainly it seems he's getting the same treatment as Bentley, who was criticised by Harry for "picking up injuries on a Friday morning" (i.e. not being bothered to turn up to training). What Harry says in the press is rarely the whole truth, but often aimed at giving the player in question a boot up the arse. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

One thing I'll say is that I refuse to accept that Keane, even if he has lost a bit, would score so infrequently were he actually given the same opportunities. He may not be the Keane of old, but with a run to build up form I'm convinced he'd still be at least a 1 in 3 striker for us. There is no way that he'd have one goal in twenty two appearances.

You might say that he wouldn't assist VDV like Crouch does, and while that may be true, VDV would still score goals (see Villa away) and VDV/ the midfield would also have made more for Keane that Crouch has for VDV. Keane would also still assist hos fair share as he always did.

Harry has seemed reluctant to use Keane at all in the league this season though, how many minutes does he have? The fact that Crouch has 1 league goal in over 1000 mins of football is criminal.

Agree entirely.

Which is pretty sad, if true, as Roman has been upfront, throughout, about not being the brightest penny in the pocket...so maybe he HAS really tried to learn the language and just doesn't have that capability.

Our strikers will cost us 4th alas.
i fear the same...it needed addressing in the summer when we had the CL appeal so if we miss out this time it will be harder to address.
I think Keane might leave but doubt we will get a new striker in before end of the month as Jan prices are a joke.

REALLY hope im wrong but there you go

Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd:
"The difference was Taarabt.
"He's an exceptional player, I was tempted to run on and kick him myself at one stage. He was absolutely terrific.
"How do you stop him? I'm not really bothered now, we've played them twice.
"He didn't do much at our place and I don't think he did too much today, but then suddenly he hits a 40-yard pass with the outside of his foot and you have to admire it.
"With that talent you have to ask why is he here?"

I think it's worth buying now. But that's assuming there's anyone around to buy...

The fact that he is lighting up the Championship is not reall surprising to me, but you have to keep in in context. I am not doubting he is a talant but he didn't cut it with us for one reason or another so move on.

We need a striker, IMO if we had a top class striker that suited our system, we would be 3rd just looking at the number of draws we could have won.

It makes me very sad that Defoe seems to be half the player he used to be. Where has the hunger gone?

As for Crouch, the sooner he is sold the better for my blood pressure.

Problem is that Keane has not only lost what he had, but i couldn't see how he could play with VDV, he lacks pace, ariel threat and would constantly drop deep in the area where vdv likes to play.

Defoe is the answer, but i do admit he needs to start scoring, and soon.
