Got to say we look a better team without him despite his talent

When he plays it all revolves around him but without him the whole team looks fluid and in balance

...too many beers me thinks

He does change our formation to 4-5-1

It's true that our strikers have been poor but can the formation change account for the lack of goals scored at WHL?

He's an amazing player but are we a better team at home yet with him in it?

We really miss him though dont we? I think its having Defoe AND Van Der Vaart that makes it worse. Hopefully Defoe coming back will help us when VDV is out. Not enough quality movement up top atm.

Erm. Ban for what? Having an opinion? It's a forum!

So far we have played better as a team without him in the front 2.

I'm not saying he's not a great player. Or that we can't find a system for him that suits the whole team.

We've scored 10 goals in the last 3 games without VDV in the front 2

We scored 5 goals against Inter Milan (both legs) without VDV

He has scored goals and won man of the match. But sometimes the team doesn't function as well with him in it

Did we miss him tonight? No

I said this back in October and it's still true

VDV plays far too deep at home. We'd do better with two out and out strikers like last season.

For VDV to drop that deep we'd need a Drogba/Rooney/Torres to hold the ball up.

Well said.

It was obvious that we needed to change to 442 and this could and should have been done even at half time.

Poor from Harry IMO.

Give me VDV any day over Lennon who runs fast and provides fuck all and that other so called striker Defoe who doe's fuck all and couldn't hit a barn door.

I would like to see Bale at left back in games like todays. Ekotto had a solid game but he didn't have too much work to do today. I think we could afford to play Bale at left back and have VDV roam as much as he likes in from the left. 2 up top.

The change of formation has definetly affected our scoring. We need to go back to 4-4-2 asap.

The writings on the wall. Great player but he doesn't really fit in anywhere.

Problem today a lot of the time is he drops so deep to pick up the ball, crouch becomes very isolated. VDV basically wants to do everything and is a bit like a school kid in that he constantly runs to where the ball is (and is petulant and gets booked for it). Definitely an off day for him I thought but it's not like he's droppable, he's the only one who looks like scoring

I think Pav looked far more dangerous than VDV did
