Seem to recall Friedel having the same number of clean sheets as Gomes this season, even at 40 with Villa having defensive injuries all season and not being that great in the first place. Friedel also played more games.

Think Carlo is new 3rd choice following Pletikosa's loan finishing...

Friedel is an experienced, model professional, who is very vocal. Far better than Carlo easily. ADDS to the strength of the squad.

But you lads go ahead, throw your ropes up.

Agreed. I like the thoughts of Friedel and Parker. Friedel is experienced and has a good record. Obviously he isnt a long term option, but maybe there isnt a long term option available at the moment? I would certainly rather Friedel than Gomes!

re Parker - i dont see how you can call him 5th choice CM dan? Firstly he was voted the best player in the PL this season. That doesnt mean he is the best midfielder in the PL obviously, however it would suggest he has something about him and he would certainly be above Palacios and Jenas in our squad! Tbh i wouldnt be fussed either way with Parker - a good player if the price is right i guess.

so disappointing to see us aiming at players like Friedel, unless he is just for back up for a new no 1 keeper like Lloris

I really hope we are aiming higher that this

honestly, how would he improve our squad ?

Brett, who besides Modric and Sandro are these really good foreign signings we've made?

I genuinely do not understand the Parker hatred. It's not like we're offering Nicky Butt a place in our first team. Parker's a play that has consistently performed at the highest level, has just come off the back of his best season to date, as proven by his player of the year award.

He's strong, a leader, hard working, determined, willing to bust his balls to help his team defensively and still has the ability to cause problems to opposition defences. How can that not be a player worthy of a place in our squad?

As far as I can tell, people are ignoring his qualities on the pitch and drawing negatives from the fact that he's 30, plays for a team that got relegated and doesn't have a foreign sounding name.

Yet, at 30 he still has at least two years at the highest level. And in those two years, the club has time to find another potential Sandro type player to bed into the club and ease into the first team gradually.

And West Ham got relegated because they had a shit manager and a shit team around Parker. If the rest of West Ham put in half the level of commitment, effort and quality as Parker, they'd have survived with ease.

Parker is simply an upgrade on Jenas, O'Hara, Palacios and Huddlestone. It means we can rest either of Sandro or Modric without taking a drop in quality.

In other words, he's a damn good player and I'd be delighted to see him play for my club with the level of commitment, hard work and quality he displayed for West Ham last year.

We have the entire summer to sign one, why is next summer going to be any different? The answer is it will be no different but Harry doesn't want to "take a risk on a foreigner" no matter what their reputation is like and would rather go with the perceived "solid" option as what happens beyond next season matters not one iota to him.

Though of course that is not to take away from the amount of good work done for us by Lennon, Bale, Defoe, Huddlestone, Dawson, King, Palacios and Gallas

I actually heard some quasi-ITK tonight. Someone I know with connections at Leicester said they've put in a £2.5m bid for Naughton. This was apparently rejected but they were told we would sell for £4m.

I guess this was just the first round of bartering and we'll end up meeting somewhere in the middle soon enough.

Apparently Warnock is keen, so we could get a bidding war going, althought I am sure the player would push for QPR.

VDV, Gomes, Ekotto, Corluka, Kaboul, all signings from abroad who've done very well for us.

Both Kaboul and Corluka were signed from English clubs. Let's be honest, Kabouls first spell here wasn't the most successful.

Maybe we ll be in the CL and be in a position to buy a lloris or someone of his ilk who isnt willing to go to a non CL club? Or maybe there is just no one out there at the moment who takes our fancy?

I dont see why Harry wouldnt take a risk on a foreigner if he rated him? He has done so before many times, so why wouldnt he again?

He recently said "I'd rather sign players from the Premier League rather than take a risk on a foreign player"

Forgot to add VdV.

Gomes I like and hope we keep to work with a player like Friedel, Corluka was PL proven, Kaboul only improved after gaining PL experience along with BAE. Both can be improved upon IMO.

Proven performers are what turned the club from the downward spiral to the CL imo (Harry's signings btw).

More of this with some fresh prospects is what the squad needs IMO and Harry has the right idea, mind you he's no history of buying foreigners ... shit, actually he does and IT'S ONLY JUNE.

this time last year when we were linked with parker he didnt have 80% of these hype-merchants,

its funny how media hype can make a player so much better.

Thats fair enough isnt it - players who are used to playing in this country are likely to settle quicker right? That doesnt mean he wont sign a player from another country though but i guess time will tell on that 1.
