clichy is available. ekotto isnt. hence the interest for clichy, not for ekotto.

Ekotto is technically good, but is a poor defender, and offers virtually nothing going forward. He also gives the ball away quite a lot.
In the middle third of the pitch he's pretty good.

BAE isn't shying away from contract talks in the last year of his contract (like Clichy), and therefore our price to buy BAE would be far higher than Arsenal might consider for Clichy to stop him going on a Bosman next summer.

Clichy is one of the few arse kiddies that Comolli is credited with discovering when he was a goon scout. He's also in the last year of his contract and allegedly wants a huge pay hike on his £50k per year. So, it makes sense that DC is after him.
If the scousers want to pay silly money in wages, then they can get on with it. LB is not a need position for us, and I think Clichy has shown little progression since first coming into their team.
Indeed, IIRC, Gallas' major strop when he sat on the halfway line and accused the gooner youngsters of not being professional enough and losing concentration was aimed, in significant part, at Clichy.

He offers nothing going forward, except that Bale (was it yesterday) said he loves playing with him. Gives the ball away quite a lot...had the same debate with someone else on this. It isn't because he a poor player, it is because of the type of ball he plays most often for Bale. He clips it into space. When it comes off Bale is away, and, thereforre, percentage wise it is a good Bale to play as it often results in a chance. When it doesn't come of it is usually because it is intercepted or Bale is muscled out (often by teams doubling up on him). It's a calculated risk.
Bad defender...this seems to be the real issue. From what I see, he is most often to be observed dealing calmly with situations that arise calmly, coming away with the ball coolly, and either passing it simply to the midfield, or else, trying to put bale into space (as above). He makes errors. All players do. But making the occasional gaff doesn't make him a bad defender, it means he makes the occasional gaff, is all. A good defender, as far as I am concerned...which, presumably, is why he was a contender for fans player of the year:shrug:

We won't need a new RB (unless harry is a dick and buys one). Kyle Walker had a solid performance just now. One of the best players on the pitch.
