I think that Keane was brought back mainly because the previous owners of Liverpool had not honoured the transfers instalments they were suppose to have paid.

The phantom scout, who shall not be named. Seriously, that person needs to be held accountable.

Yeah, it's not as if Suarez played for a major european side whose games are on telly (inc CL) or played in the last world cup or anything is it.

I mean after all, where would Modric have been if Redknapp hadn't discovered him languishing in our reserves ? or Bale ?

I can't grab the quotes because my phone Wont let me, so I'll answer as best as I can remember your points.

Firstly I can see that spurs have bought players under harrys tenure, but we had sold players also. One things for sure, we have improved as a team and a squad. This has enabled us to push the boundaries of the champions league. What Harry is saying is we can either improve to the next level or not an play pretty football without the ambition of a title challenge

Suarez was not a mistake in my eyes, he plays the vdv role and vdv for me is a better player. The idiot thing dont stick either, unless of course you sit in the 0.01% camp Harry was talking about.

Regarding harrys tactical abilities I think your right. Except I think Harry is aware o this so employs people around him for help

This is the excuse Harry (or the phantom scout) gave, and it doesn't stick. Suarez has already shown he can quite clearly play off of the last man.

Suarez wasnt deemed the right player so we didnt go for him - time to move on. Far to early to comment on how good a player he will be. Yeah he has shown some great touches etc but he has also had some but in his 13 starts he has only scored against Stoke, Sunderland, Newcastle and Fulham so lets not get totally carried away. I like the guy but he has a long way to go yet

And in 19 starts Defoe only scored against Blackpool, West Brom, Wolves, Charlton and FC Twente. So what?

Who have we sold that weakened us since Redknapp arrived ?

Not everything is about who we buy. Our squad was too good to not win a game for 3 months. Crouch and VDV start in the San Siro then not again for three months, why ? Why is our top scorer played at RM. Our second best fit CB played at RB, our RB played at LB ?

Suarez is not the same player as VDV, that is rubbish. And Redknapp must have seen the same Suarez the rest of us have seen in the WC, The Cghampions League and the Dutch League.

Kevin Bond ? Les Ferdinand ? Please.

Most of all it's the crap he spouts. Modric was in our reserves when he arrived ? How do you explain blatant bullshit like that ?

i dont remember anyone saying or implying that suarez wasnt better than defoe? i can name numerous players who got more goals than defoe but do you want each of them? i didnt realise out scoring defoe suddenly means that we should have signed them................

Harry is on record as saying that he prefers players who have PL experience. Perhaps this is the real reason he didn't go for Suarez-not all this other stuff about him being too similar to VDV?

No need to be obtuse. Can you name numerous players better than Defoe who we were definitely in for, but turned down? That's the difference.

Defoe started 8 Prem games in a row from Jan 22nd, scoring 2 goals against Wolves. I don't think Suarez would have done much worse. Anyway, this isn't the thread for that.

i think he just thought at that price it was too big a risk and to be fair it was a lot of ££. I think most would prefer players with PL experience as they generally will settle easier, though i am sure if the right player came about Harry would buy them no matter where they came from.

Having listened to the interview I thought Harry spoke with a lot of passion, and much of what he said made sense, but, as others have already mentioned, there were some worrying signs in what he said, primarily the inference that he has no say over signings. I find this an astonishing comment and was surprised that it wasn't picked up on by the interviewers.

On another matter, I have lurked on these pages and read attack and counter-attack by the anti and pro-Harry brigades. I have no axe to grind either way, but, while I was delighted with the CL run, and see a fifth-placed finish as something creditable, my own frustration lies in the fact that we could have done better in a season where, frankly, there wasn't a true stand-out team in the premiership. We didn't deserve another go at the CL because we're a big team, or because we secured one the year before. We should have finished in the top four because it was within our grasp. No wins for three months and we still finish only nine points away from the runners-up spot. That was the earthquake and these are just the after-shocks.

Absolute quality post that is.

im not actually gonna bother getting into this, and havent even read your reply properly as you clearly missed the point i was making earlier. i am simply saying that suarez may turn out to be a good player but its to early to say yet and he hasnt set the pl on fire yet. never did i slate suarez or ever imply that defoe was anywhere near as good as him. anyway.........

what i will say though - we dont know if we were definately in for suarez. all rumours

Er, not rumours, as Harry has confirmed we were in for him. But we said no because a scout (can we track this person down, please) said he was too much like VDV. This is all from Harry himself.

Does anybody else think its conceivable that Hughes could well be on stand-by, I mean it appears that the Levy/Redknapp axis is weakening and I cant help but think Hughes is waiting for the Spurs job...

Purely speculative... I'm not saying I would be in complete support of such an appointment by the way just putting it out there.

Harry Redknapp has revealed that he considered signing Luis Suárez in January but opted against making a bid after being told by scouts that the Uruguayan was not up to the grade.

Redknapp's tantalising disclosure will set Tottenham Hotspur supporters wondering what might have been, as Suárez went on to sign for Liverpool and become a major factor in that club's reinvigoration, while Spurs' attempt to qualify for the Champions League fizzled out largely because of their inability to turn possession into goals.

Suárez will be seeking to show Spurs what they missed on Sunday, as Liverpool meet Redknapp's team at Anfield in a match that could determine which of the sides finishes fifth. Redknapp said he dispatched numerous scouts to watch Suárez at Ajax before Liverpool paid £22.8m for him but was informed that the player was not adept at leading the line and was too similar to Rafael van der Vaart, for whom Spurs were seeking a partner rather than a replacement. Ultimately Spurs made failed offers for others strikers, including Fernando Llorente and Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi. "We kept looking at [Suárez] but people thought he couldn't play up as a striker," said Redknapp.

"They said he's like Rafa [van der Vaart] and you can't have him and Rafa or you'd have two players who want to drop deep, so that was the problem. We were looking for someone to play up front with Rafa. People said he couldn't do that, he drifts and comes deep. But he played up front on his own the other night [against Fulham on Monday] and he was fantastic."

fair play didnt know that. either way, its irrelevant now as we aint got him and as said, only time will tell if he is good enough. to many people all over him as if he has already made it, when all he has done is made a good start to his anfield career. was a lot of £££ and we werent willing to risk that much on someone who wasnt proven - time will tell if that was the wrong decision
