I don't think a new contract would suffice if Modric is determined to leave, which is still very much debatable.

There is no way we would be able to compete financially with Chelsea to offer Modric a similar package so we have to convince, if that is the case, Modric to show him that we are a club with aspirations and that we will be challenging on all fronts next season.

Chelsea are by no means guaranteed to be winning trophies anymore than us but as long as we show some chutzpah in the transfer market and make a lot of positive noises about where this club is going then I'm sure that would be sufficient in getting Modric onside.

Id be more concerned if this meeting was taken place when the Chelsea interest broke, ie Modders would have been jetting back for emergency talks. The way im reading it is he is only due back today and to train tomorrow, it will just be Levy telling him hes not for sale, maybe come to an agreement on an increase in wages to what they agreed last sumer and we move on, really I think he'll stay.

Certainly showdown, but at who`s request, I`d imagine its Levy calling the shots here...If he sticks to his guns it won`t be a very long meeting...

whether he stays or not I dont like the feeling of one player holding the club to ransom like this. No one is bigger than the club, especially some Croatian midget with 1 good season under his belt

Modric cant do much, he has said he wont hand in a transfer request so if Levy says i wont sell you, what can Modric do but go against his words and hand one in? which i cant see.

My guess is Levy will talk him round to giving us 1 season to get back into CL and will then have to sign one or two top draw players, and posiably ones that they talk to Modric about... if we sign X and Y we will be challaging for the league, if we dont then you can go for a good price next season.
