bids aren't imminent. if they are at the lodge together today, it will be a regular meeting they often have throughout transfer windows to discuss targets, outgoings etc. there's a long way to go before we place bids that we genuinely feel will be accepted. Levy will be at the lodge quite often over the next week as there are issues to sort out with various players over their future, ie modric and the 'deadwood' brigade, and if there have been tentative enquiries, these players will need to be told what the plan of action is going to be.

however, as i've said before, we're trying to do things earlier this year, and the work starts now. 'imminent bids' is very misleading though.

This is spot on

Apart from the fact I think a bid (ice cream) might be imminent. But only because that's what I was told the other day

This sell before you buy is doing my head in. United have a big squad and they bought 3 or 4 of who they want in and are now selling 3 of their dead wood.

It's annoying isn't it. The general consensus seems to be that if we buy a new striker, other teams will know that we need to sell, so will offer less for our strikers. Yet surely if we sell one or two strikers, other teams will know that we need to buy and will raise their prices?

There are risks either way, but I'd definitely prefer it if we splashed the cash on a new striker, then risked taking a loss when selling someone like Defoe or Crouch.

Utd are in a completely different spectrum to us. There turnover compared to ours... well, it just doesn't compare.

We all agree that we need 1 or 2 big signings to compete, yes?

These 1 or 2 big sigings, probably will not fall within our wage structure, yes?

Ok, so in order to pay these big sigings and maybe increase the wages of our other star players to be in line with these new big sigings, we need to balance the books.

This means that we have to sell the "deadwood" who maybe are on 40/50K per week to free up moeny for wages to keep us in line with our wage/turnover structure and also to free up places in our 25 man squad.

I hope that makes sense.

Would absolutely love him to come at the Lane.

He's the type of signing that can push us on to the next level.

I wouldn't say N'Zogbia would push us to the next level seeing as he wouldn't be much more than cover for Bale/Lennon. Someone like Mata would push us onto the next level although as you said, he's very unlikely to come to spurs.

Totally agree, he is a at best above average mid table player, he is not anytwhere near the class that would help push us higher, squad player yeh, he is an ok player at times shows he can be brilliant but those flases are few and far between.

Exactly. We bought Keane initially for £7m. We sold him for £20m, we then resigned him for £8m. We're still £5m up!! Sell him for 2.5m if you want and get rid of the wages and let's get moving!

Not to mention that the "deadwood" at United are generally players with CL and title challenging experience. A good proportion of ours isn't even good enough to be deadwood at United!

United can always get a decent price for them as they'll without doubt make an impact at a mid-table side.

Just saying that these meeting are common place, I wouldn't use them personally to say we are close to signing anyone. That aside I was told we were gonna bid for.....

I like N'zogbia, bags of talent and what he needs is a proper challenge.

I think he would be an excellent signing to cover the wings and would be prepared to sit some games out, mind you he could very well force himself into the side as a regular starter. His goal threat would be huge for us.

Quality cover which sounds realistic in every sense.

mate surely its preferable we get them in early...in an ideal world i mean

if we signed a player before wednesday they could go to SA & bed right in, that would be excellent...

it hardly nonsense:shrug:

It's this idea that players need time to bed in that I don't get. As I said yes it's preferable but I wouldn't be punting millions of pounds out of the window to get players here 3 weeks earlier.

All players will be training with their current clubs so there's no issue of fitness. We've never ever played a friendly match with the team that starts the first day of the season so that's not a problem.

I just don't think it's as big a deal as we've all come to think of it in the past.

If this is from a Barkingside/Ilford lad, then I'm guessing Rossi.

(There's a Rossi Bros [ice cream parlour] on the High Street in Barkingside, there used to be one in Ilford - not sure if that one is still there).
