Nope. A world class player on a 6 year contract, with most of it to run, in exchange for £25m and an ageing has been?

No thanks.

We are trying to build something. End of.

Implying contracts mean anything in football?

Drogba's a beast and I find it hysterical anyone could call him a has been.

When's your intuition suggest we'll sign someone for the first team?

I don't think we will sign anyone for years to come.

Things started out well with Friedel but then everything went to shit when the Harewood and Carlton Cole deals fell through. And then Levy realized that we still had Jenas on our books and he went into a break down.

He's nearly 34. Can you really compare a 34 year old to a 25 year old on a 6 month contract??

I think you have a screw loose mate.

If Drogba was good enough to still play at the very top then Chelsea wouldn't get rid would they?

Oh, but no, fans like you are happy to take cast offs if you can bask in the memories of when they were great players with many playing years left.

Someimes I just don't think some fans care about us becoming top four mainstays.

He also has ACN this year and always plays badly when this is on.

Teteh Bangura could be worth a go:

2006–2008 Kallon 30 (24)
2009 Cleveland City Stars 9 (2)
2009 → Cascade Surge (loan) 3 (5)
2010 Kallon 7 (5)
2010 Köping 9 (12)
2011– AIK 14 (13)
Total 70 (56)

Both Benguras (Teteh/Ibrahim and Muhammed) in AIK are doing great this year and they are both young with tons of potential. Think we should keep a close watch on them, aswell as Agon Mehmeti (just moved from Malmö to Palermo).

We've signed a talented kid, ok he's 18, but this really doesn't have too much to do with addressing the first eleven in any shape or form.

But new signings are always welcome

Might as well use the Modric money on razor blades so we can all commit mass suicide.

How old is he? 70 appearances since 2006 looks achievable to Darren Anderton!

Yay finally we've signed that striker we so dearly have been waiting for :-|

Delighted.I've already called work and told them not to expect metomorrow as I'll be busy celebrating my beloved club finally landing a world class prolific striker.

Has anyone else seen his party trick?

The kid can balance a ball on the back of his neck while he takes his shirt off

I'm amazed Wenger didn't tap him up before us

The news about Leandro is very disconcerting. If we take a step back and take a look at the transfer landscape, our options are potentially limited.

Keep in mind that we have just over 4 weeks before our first fixture against Everton. Also, it has been repeated by Redknapp and various ITK messengers that the club seemingly needs to sell surplus players to raise funds and alleviate the wage bill before any new quality signings can be brought in. Thus far, interest doesn't appear to be exceptionally high in our deadwood, which even Kranjcar has lamented is due to unrealistic transfer fee expectations.

So apparently, we'll have to find suitors ready to pay quality prices in the following few weeks before we can begin to seriously negotiate for an incoming striker. Even assuming we can do that (which many here seem to think is unlikely), we'll possibly be: 1.) Priced out of a move for our striker targets due to transfer fees, 2.) Priced out of a move for our striker targets due to wages, 3.) Have difficulty landing players because there clubs don't want to sell so late without a replacement.

Let's look at the striker's most linked to us.

Leandro: Has apparently signed an extension with Internacional and the relevant ITK seems to indicate that he isn't in the cards for this transfer window.

Rossi: His agent has openly touted a potential move to Juventus. Villareal, a Champions League squad, have said that those who want Rossi, must move now. They apparently will not sell late in the window without a replacement. Given their past evaluation, they'll want a minimum of 30 million pounds for him. The player, who has been linked to Barcelona as well, will presumably want to be well compensated at his new club. When you take that all into account, how can Levy deliver him?

Llorente: The politics of this involve a homegrown Basque player of world class ability, who's estimated market value will be a minimum of 30 million pounds. But for Bilbao, he's worth is probably much higher. They can't replace him given the nature of their club, and selling Llorente would be a disastrous first move for Urrutia as club president. Real Madrid have also be heavily linked to Llorente.

Adebayor: He has already lamented the fact that he is willing to wait until the very last day of the window to get his move to Madrid. He is on gigantic wages and City have zero incentive to sell to us. Whether they see us as rivals is irrelevant, as they can get the same money abroad for him (with better personal terms) as we can offer.

Falcao: Probably the best striker of this lot. In my opinion, he's one of the best pure goal-scorers in the world at the moment. He has a 26 million pound buyout clause, but again, Spurs seem reluctant to spend without selling players off. He's openly talked about a dream move to Chelsea (he and Modric alone would be a sensational window for them).

Vucinic: He's probably the only realistic option of a quality upgrade left, in my opinion. But just today, Roma's sporting director said they will not sell him this summer. Even if they consider selling him, they will insist on a healthy transfer fee. This also can't be done too late in the transfer window, since Roma are a big club with big asipirations who also would want a top shelf replacement brought in.

I think looking at the above, it isn't all that difficult to imagine us, especially with the stipulation that marquee signings can't come until players are shift out, missing on every one of these players.

The two names I think we may end up examining (not necessarily purchasing) around the time of late August are Asamoah Gyan and Peter Odemwingie. Bruce has said Gyan will only be potentially moved if a "wonder bid" is placed. Considering they paid 13 million for him, you'd have to imagine that 20 million would be a threshold bid. Odemwingie is set to meet with Hodgson this week, and they are seeking to extend his contract.

All in all, it is going to be a defining 6 weeks for Daniel Levy. Does he have the temerity to stand strong on Modric and boldly chase a quality signing without having shifted out our deadwood? If he does cave and sell Modric, what would he do if Bale handed in a transfer request at the last minute, like Andy Carroll did?

Chelsea's tactics make no sense to me. They've accomplished the possiblity of him leaving, but after these low ball offers, to an overseas club.

When they finally have their £50mil bid accepted we'll all be over the moon saying:

"Finally, they have met our valuation"

You make a lot of very relevant points, and it is pretty bleak looking I feel.

Out of the big names I think only Rossi and Vucinic are remotely possible and with the Modric saga - its make or break time, but Lord knows how things will pan out.

I'm already concerned with the lack of movement in terms of outgoings, particularly when I'm reading quotes from Kranjcar that we are looking for 12-15 million for him. This was the window when we should be relaxing the squeezing of every last penny (within reason of course) on every deal, the bigger picture in terms of shaping, trimming and balancing our squad should surely be the priority. Granted a lot easier said than done but you do feel we'll continue to play the waiting game with outgoings as well which is worrying when all ITK and speculation suggests we need to ship quite a few out before we add.

Yes its a difficult balancing act, but I must admitt I expected a brave few more out by now (or at least deals way down the pipeline)

It wont be a popular view, but if we could get players from Chelsea in return, Sturridge etc, I would sell Modric to them for a ridiculous fee and player exchange...or else no deal, obviously.
