The only thing that makes sense to Levy is padding his bank account. In all seriousness, only the delusional would think that Levy would spend 15 on Diarra or 20 on Gyan. He hasn't spent more than 9 million on a player since we were staring down relegation.

Ignoring the whole "Modric isn't for sale at any price" thing though right?

Redknapp not flying out until Sunday, anyone know why?

What? I thought his case started on Monday. God, if they delay this again and make us suffer for another year it's not good. It's been hanging over us for too long. Either put him in jail or let him off.

What about the 30mil bid for Rossi or 38.5mil bid for Aguero back in Jan? Sure, they were unsuccessful cos it was left til the 11th hour but the bids were made. Ive no idea who we will go for now though in terms of strikers though, id certainly hope they are of hugher standard than Gyan and Odemfeckingwinge.

So you keep reminding us, but then Harry has said that Levy will sanction the spending of big cash for the right player, as have various ITK's and paper reports.

Then you recall Levy put in several big money bids for players at the end of the last window, which I believe you dismiss as PR stunts if I recall your previous posts on the subject.

That being said I think there is at least enough evidence to suggest that if the right player for the right price were available Levy would sanction a deal for relatively big money to not call those who believe he will delusional.

I agree you make a decent point, but i think saying the very notion of such a transfer occurring this window is delusion is harsh.

I believe both Harry and Levy have said there is money to spend and personally I'm not so dismissive of such signings happening this window (I just think Levy will continue to seek the best deal instead of spending wrecklessly)

And yet we haven't spent a dime. I can say I'm going to buy a Ferrari to impress a girl a bar. Doesn't mean I will. And I'm still driving a KIA.

I thinks its pretty obvious that those bids were just posturing to make it look like we were ambitious. Maybe they knew modric wanted to leave then and thought by smacking in some mega bids which they knew wouldn't get accepted would be enough. If levy was serious about signing those players for that sort of money where is the follow up offer??

Yes but then you can't afford a Ferrari and probably have more need to impress

I think we may have been cautious with money, especially perhaps while plans for the new stadium were/are up in the air and we certainly will not be wreckless for the sake of it, but what with our CL money I am sure we are capable of spending such sums should the right player be available at a price we are prepared to pay (at that could easily be in the £20m plus bracket I believe)

I think you are being overly cynical personally.

Its not like Levy and or Harry made a big PR exercise out of the bids for Rossi and Augero last summer. I for one believe they were genuine attempts to attain a world class striker in the 11th hour as is true to form with Levy during transfer window time.

I agree with you're logic in regards to our recent spending but I disagree with you using this as empirical evidence to suggest we can't and won't possibly spend big this window.

I assume you don't actually KNOW anymore about the clubs finances and Levy's position on on transfers and what he will allow for a kitty any more than I do or the rest of our community do (we're all using guess work, common sense and our own opinions)

I personally am incline to believe pretty much the official line coming out of the club, that Levy will sanction large signings for big money providing the squad and wage bill is trimmed to accomodate this expenduture and not leave us with surplus squad members we have to pay but cannot register to pay

I think Levy would sanction the type of signing he deems to make sense, not something like £35m for Carroll but if we could get Rossi for £25m or Augero for £30m I think he would deal (assuming wage demands could be met)

Further more i think the recent incident with Modric will force Levy's hand some what. I am sure he recognises the need to keep us competitive and the need to spend to do that or risk devaluing the club and squad with poor on field performance and disgruntled playing staff demanding moves.

So I guess you can call me foolish or delusional for believing what Harry and Levy actually say in the face of all your evidence from the last couple of windows (windows where by we had already spent excessively and needed only the right player not mass spending on any player) and I can call you cynical for dismissing out of hand the very notion we may spend big money this window because of what you think you know about our finances and budget.

The actual truth is probably somewhere in between.

Ben's just said that the "Nigerian kid is very close to signing".

People taking that to mean his geography is as good as his English ;-) and he means Coulibaly (Ivory Coast) but could be M'Baye (Senegal)?

Edit: Coulibaly apparently

Well to be fair, looking down from a tree, it's easy to make such mistakes
