The problem with your suggestion though is that all of the mods/admins know who it pertains to as well as the original source.

If we then turned around and said it was someone else, I think we'd start a riot in the mod forum

Also if you don't trust us to own up whether it came of or not then you probably shouldn't trust us to run this place and should use somewhere else ;-p

Ok, but in no way was I critising you or any of the mods for that matter....it was more tongue and cheek and I wasn't thinking of you knowing the source/sensitive info etc...as dumb as that sounds.

I just don't get why a cryptic solution can't be shared. What in the world is going to happen if their name is posted in a fan forum? "that's it forget it there s no way we're signing for spurs now, someone printed the answer to that riddle". Maybe a fairy will die. Mods and admin know, so what does it matter if a few more do. Post it on page 16 of this thread each day, then only the select keen few will find out.

The point is we dont need to know who it is after the player has been announced. So the mods can come in here and say we can confirm it was mr x, but who cares? The deal is done anyway so the whole process is pointless.

I also dont get why the ITK even bother with cryptic. Surely the point of ITK is to let us know a bit about what's going on. It's all a bit of fun imo so I always appreciate the players they come out with. But the cryptic clue thing doesn't let us know anything.

It just allows people who are ITK to say "hey I know who we're signing but you don't. I'll give you a clue though". OK thanks. Lets all play guess who the ITK knows we're in talks with to pass the time. We wont know the answer until that player signs though.

It's more the fact that the source that the ITK is getting the info from will stop sharing it if it ends up on the forums that blatantly. We know people who've been sacked/disciplined for things along those lines.

Exactly and also the fact that we're in talks with someone.

Like I said, people generally seem to like getting the cryptic stuff compared to us not posting anything at all and at least it keeps this thread vaguely on topic.

i dont give a fuck which itk knows what... im a spurs fan and i come on here to get a little heads up. not to play guess who. i didnt realise the thread was the daily guess who first before you can discuss thread. its not about rep to the itk, we want info, thats all. it seems like its just getting to a point where its all about the itks reputations.

But surely the Source would recognise this and link the cryptic with the divulged player info straight away. Unless the clue would puzzle Sherlock for a good few days, or levy himself sets the game. Im not sure I'd risk posting anything if my job was at risk.

It's a choice of either:

We tell you what we can cryptically so we keep the source sweet and you know something is happening and people can pass the time guessing a bit

or

We keep it private as the source doesn't want it shared and you sit in here talking about Modric going all day

Also the majority of the information posted wasn't cryptic but that's been ignored.

For me that article is another in the worrying trend that suggests Harry and Levy are rarely on the same page. Clearly Levy, who I'm now seeing more as the MAD spoof, back of the chair view, hand and cat guy from inspector gadget, is in charge but if you don't trust the manager to identify the players?
