We don't have to... or we don't have any money to spend?

If the money's dried up that's a massive problem.

And it should also be noted a lot of the money we've spent has come from selling our f-ing best players for large sums of money!! Carrick, Berbatov and Keane in particular.

I don't think we've spent beyond our means. And we've had a good run in the Champions League now. That's meant to be a money-spinner. So where's the money?!

Yeah, we must have the CL money stashed somewhere, to get all the way to the QF's and not get a decent amount would seem a bit rubbish!

In a way as our strikers only scored 1 goal in SA, it just highlights the issues that we have with a lack of firepower up top and we really have to push for another striker or risk falling by the wayside this season.

Time to twist not stick!

You know, Donna Cullen's words are seeming to be more and more pertinent.

I hope not! But could well be ....
The question's got to be what her motive was?
That we really aren't going to be spending much to keep it for the stadium development
That she's softening us up for a couple of underwhelming transfers at 15 not 30 mil
That it's all a smokescreen for the big one?

I reckon Levy has spent it all on high class whores and finest Columbian flake

I'm hoping that it's not just the situation where our "strikers" only got 1 goal in South Africa that have set alarm bells off about our lack of firepower. It's been evident since last summer.

Financially we've always more than broken even, I figure, especially over the past 5 years. So I guess if Levy/Enic/Joe Lewis don't have to funds to take us further that's a massive problem.

The money will go into building a longer term future for the football club

Get the money for ground
build ground
get 60,000 a week through the gates
build revenue
get the marquee players

At the moment, we may get one or two VdV signings from out the blue, we will get one or two kids as for the last 8-9 years and develop and sell at profit. we might get the 1/2 players a step UNDER the so called 'world class' signings we think would come.

But the cold light of day is that the above is pretty much the facts. we'll get the signings but NOT the Ageuros of the world. Wake up if you think that.

As a shareholder, a season ticket holder I want it all. As a mate and friends of people that know, I hear this and that, that builds up my hopes and I pass these on. But in the cold light of day, we're NOT the pull some think and our transfer strategy HAS to be nimble and smart at the moment.

We'll have signings, just have to see how its played out. everyone chill the fuck out.

Why am I starting to get a bad feeling...really thought there would be outward movement by now...I know Levy has to get the right deals financially and so he should but you do one wonder will he play the waiting game with sales to extract maximum value all the while are chances of incomings reduce as their fees go up if their respective Clubs need to find replacements (referring to a certain calibre of player)

Totally agree on both points, I was suggesting that it would bring the fact that our strikers aren't performing even in pre-season to the fore, rather than the management think that they just had a 'bad' season last year.

If Levy came out and said.

"Ok, we've stashed the CL money and we're putting it towards getting the new ground sorted. Don't expect major investment in players in the short term at least..."

I'm sure we'd all think "Fair enough... we'll just have to sit tight, see what happens"

But now we're in limbo. We're expecting big signings, but let's face it... it's unlikely at best. But we're uncertain, we don't know. If we knew it would save us logging on to this thread/the OS every couple of hours to see if we've signed anyone.

Couldn't agree more. It wasn't just a blip last season. This is a major problem that needs fixing.

Donna Cullen was blatantly just giving a non descript answer... She's not gonna say "We've got £100m to blow in the next 3 weeks and we are looking at 10 players and will hope to secure at least 3 of them..."

I would of thought everyone understands this by now? I recon Harry is a lot wiser than people give him credit for, he is unlikely to say we're not after Adebayor or Rossi we're really pushing hard for DJ Campbell (random name inserted as we have no idea who he is after).... The only times he mentions a name is when he is prompted hence sky sports "you were linkedin with Rossi what do you think of him" and then he answers...

All the other "top 4" teams have been smashing in 5-8 goals a game in pre season.

How can they not see we need a new striker?

I think that we are all getting a bit desparate for a new signing, but other than Utd and Sunderland there hasn't been too much activity. The issue must be gettiong the right deal for the right player. Any clubs looking to buy our players that our on the outside won't want to pay top dollar for them, know that we don't want them. We've got too big a squad of fringe players now!

To be fair, they're playing teams with no quality whatsoever. Kazier Chiefs have beaten United and City in previous pre-seasons. We still desperately need a striker though! Crouch and Defoe continued to miss sitters
