So maybe Caulker isn't going to make it and he's being loaned out to generate interest in buyers. If we are so devoid of CB's, it would make more sense to keep him, seeing that he is under 21 and doesn't count on the 25 man roster. But if we are actively looking to spend oodles of cash on another CB rather than trust him in a handful of games, the club don't believe all the PR they've been putting out about him.

And don't tell me he needs a year. If he were good enough, he could handle a few matches and learn infinitely more from one game with King than 38 at Swansea and Gallas has a lot to provide him too.

It's too bad. We all want somebody to come through.

I love Ledley more than I do my girlfriend but you cannot really be suggesting that playing one game at the end of last season suddenly makes his injury record disappear?

King will miss chunks of the season I'm sure but he is by no means finished, when he does play he will be immense as always but I dont think we can relley on him to be a regular starter - would love to be proven wrong.

Gallas is 34 and last year seemed to get injured in the last twenty mins of evey game. It is not inconcievable to suggest that we will be without them both for some games.

This will leave us with Dawson, Bassong and Kaboul. If we had these three then I dont see Samba being an upgrade more on a level playing field. However lots of noises have been made about Bassong leaving so maybe thats why we are after Samba?

Also Samba offers a genuine threat from set pieces as well, fantastic scoring record as a defender, IMO would be a good adtion to the squad ecspecially if we do lose Bassong.

No but what it does suggest is that he's still our best CB when fit and he'll play when fit. You can't ignore him by making statements like "ledley is done" because he's clearly not.

IMO we're fine in the CB department. We just need sodding strikers.

I can't understand why we would want samba tbh. We have Dawson, Kaboul and Bassong, along with King and Gallas who have a couple of years left in them. Also Caulker is at least as talented as Jones and Smalling so we have to keep room for him too. P

poster last page mentioned papiss cisse up for 12 m ? any itk of him? scoring stats look very good the last few seasons. Just turned 26..

Too much of a realistic and sensible target, after all why try to sign players who's wages you can afford?

If we need another centre half I suggest arry call Spursking and ask for a few suggestions of cheaper up and coming French / African players. I know we laugh at his racial biases but to be fair his list of potential strikers at a reasonable price wasn't bad.

I don't believe this Samba business. We don't need/want a CB. I'll be really surprised if we sign him. I just can't see it happening.

I for one am gonna miss bassong if he goes. Yes he had a shocker last season but he's still young and shows flashes of utter brilliance. Very much in the ledley mould, he picks the ball of positions feet doesn't clatter them.

Well said that man.

I happen to think Caulker will make a big splash next year and we soul have wasted 15m on a CB that is no better than Bassong.

Would prefer Jagielka if we insist on buying from within the premiership.

we dont need samba imo, too similar to dawson. we need to find a composed and positionally superb centre back. i love kaboul but he hasnt got the mentality yet. Needs to be a Rio/King type or Vidic type (strong and athletic). Samba comes into the Dawson no-nonscence category imo.

Caulker is going on loan for match experience, definitely not to drum up business.

He was given the chance to work towards a place with limited chances or gain experience (like kumolo or whatever his name is)!!!

Can we please just buy a 25-30 goal a season striker?
Thing is a non world super star striker COULD get that amount in our team. We just need BETTER than our lot. KJH has been laughed at abit but is an upgrade on crouch in every way. Maybe a signing LIKE cisse could be an upgade on defoe. With those to in who knows?? Everyone was saying how good dzeko was and he was 27m. Looks dreadfull at present.

Times back page tomorrow has story about Mancini wanting Eto'o but includes line that in a 'surprising development' it emerged that Tottenham have also expressed an interest and held discussions with Inter official twice.
