This is the danger.

I think the point is, they're realising that having a £180,000 a week hole is going to catch up with them eventually.

If he stays for September, October, November and December (and leaves in January), that's in essence 18 weeks.

That's £3.24m!

We could I agree, but three players won't be enough given our injury record. As usual we will lose key players to lengthy injuries which will cost us several points, whilst Man U, Chelsea and City will retain all of their best players and continue to grind out undeserved results.

Perhaps some new physios and medical staff could be as important as a new shiny striker. Any ITK on that?

We really don't have more injuries than any of the other top clubs. Infact, over the last couple of seasons, touch wood, I would say we have been reasonably lucky not to lose anyone to any long term injuries like ACL or broken legs.

The massed ranks of congenitally pessimistic Spurs fans grow ever deeper.

Lol. Fair point but I'm merely basing my undeniably pessimistic thought on past seasons. I hope that we keep all our players fit throughout the season, sign 3 brilliant players and win the league by a clear margin of 20 points.

I understand this point, but they've had 400mil invested into them recently. Money isn't a concern. They know we are desperate for a striker and I'm just saying I'd be surprised if they say "Here you go, have 15 premieship goals this season on us, and while we're at it here's a 100 grand a week".

Said one of the trusted ITK's I'm sure.

That they are even picking up the phone suggest it.

Last year they sent a player earning tons of wedge to play in the second division because they didn't want him joining us. Now we are in discussions... doesn't suggest they view us in the same light, unless they're just taking the mickey for a little bit.

Indeed. They could be royally screwing with us. I posted before that I'm sure City would be ruthless enough to play ball to the last minute, pull out and leave us with no other forward option. Adebayor would be a casualty, but then he is earning £180k a week and probably wouldn't complain too much. With them scuppering our window and us not improving, then we certainly wouldn't be a threat. With Adebayor we would be. I don't think they are arrogant enough to think that we are now leagues below them. We had a tat season goals wise and it was still a close run thing.

They wont do us any favours, they will protect their investment.

Indeed they may flash the cash and pay silly money on wages but to have a player on that type of money ( if true? ) surplus to requirements they will want shot Mancini wants shot and business is business no matter how rich someone is that is an eye sore to the people who pay the bills!! The same thing happened at Chelsea before Abromovich started to tighten the purse strings the same will come around at city!!

You know what I think Dan is doing?

Almost finalising a deal for Diarra, then right at the last second say no actually we can only pay (a smaller fee). RM then have to either accept that bid or have him rotting on the bench (or not even that if he's not in the squad)
Not advisable for Dan to do that Rebrab - Another top Premiership team may come in for him.
I should be getting more news by Sunday evening, will pass on. I hope we haven't mucked up our blessing.
For those who keep saying they were 1st to mention Adebayor, I posted some mods and wrote Adebayor on radar long time ago but lets not fight, let be happy we may finally get our striker.
Crouch and Keane too should be off soon...

I would be a tad narked if we smashed our wage structure, for Adebayor. Good player, but not a £100k pw player. City have distorted his value massively, if we were going to shell out that much, then I'd expect a superstar. I'd expect Samuel Eto'o.

Who earns twice or thrice as much.

Adebayor, whether you like him or not - personally I hate him - is a potential thirty goal a season striker for us.

He scores. He scores alot. We make shedloads of chances. If he converts two in three of those he'll score four hundred and seventy goals for us next season.

Hate to tell you, but £100k/week isn't the going rate for superstars any more, it's closer to double that following the wages paid in recent years by the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City and Inter. £100k/week simply doesn't attract you a Samuel Eto'o any more - it's the market rate for that next level of player down: high quality international class, without being a world beater. Exactly like Adebayor is.

Okay, it's more than we would have ever paid a player and I'm not necessarily saying that it would be a good idea to make this the new 'normal' for the top earners at THFC due to our financial constraints, but like it or not Adebayor's market rate wage in the current (insane) football economic climate is right at the very top of and/or beyond our current wage structure ceiling of ~£70k/week.

Statistically, you may be right. My point was that we lost key players, and often do. The players that got injured for us, hurt us more than losing a simple squad player. Bale was out for a long stretch, Defoe at the point when it looked like he might hit a (vital) purple patch, Van der Vaart kept picking up niggling injuries. Season before, Modric broke his leg at a bad time, and it nearly happened again this season at West Brom.

Arsenal seem t have bad luck with injuries, so I didn't mention them. But Chelsea and Man U just seem to have more robust squads. Case in point is that when Chelsea were winning everything under Mourinho, Lampard, Terry and Drogba (spine) never seemed to get injured. I vaguely emember Lampard playing every game of the season in fact at one point. Just saying...

Anyhow, I'm moving seriously off topic here so I won't argue about injuries any further. I hope that we're very lucky and keep everyone fit next year.

It still bothers me that people can assign their arbitrary figures to players just on a whim.

Why people are so concerned about the wage bill is beyond me, given the way Levy has run the ship thus far.

He's not about to go all Ridsdale on us. When it comes to the financials, let's just take a backseat eh?

Bunch of accountants, the lot of ya.

Diarra is currently only on 3m Euros a year according to some Madrid fans I know. Hardly very high in the grand scheme of things

Love it :hump:

Think of the 15 goal hauls he could have had last season v Blackpool, Wigan, West Ham and the likes

If we get him, he'll finish in the top 5 strikers next season. 15 goals +

The fact is about City is that they HAVE to either sell or loan Ade and probably subsidise his wages as he will never be picked by Mancini in his 25 man squad. So any buying/loaning club therefore know that they are in a pretty strong negotiating position.

180K a week, before everyone gets carried away with there orgasmic adulation, I ask how come no other team in Europe is interested in said player ?
If he is so good, wouldnt other teams be looking at signing him

Im guessing you must be Adebayor himself or his agent then? Seeing you came up with this factual piece of information.

1) How do you know they aren't?
2) A player isn't as good as the number of trying to sign him.
