is there anyone of our target where wages are not an issue?

no but that's because we are chasing the wrong targets. we need to go for players from s.america, germany or france, not spain, italy or citeh.

our transfer "policy" is daft, chase unrealistic targets and end up with nothing.

Didn't the Journo say something about two from Germany - it would make sense as the players seem cheaper there and are on more realistic (for us) wages.

Maybe we are all barking up the wrong tree with the Spanish connection.

Didn't Harry say that at that time we could have signed him for £18m (he may have even come as we had CL football to offer) and baulked at the price. :bang:

nope, we could of signed him for that price at the beginning of january, but because we came at the end of the window, villarreal did not want to sell as they felt they could not get a replacement in time and offered him a contract with a £35 million clause

which we met and they still didn't want to sell iirc

Not really. They've shown they would not strengthen us when we were competing with them for 4th place, but that makes sense. We don't know whether or not they are willing to sell to us now that they have Champions League football. Do they see Adebayor at Spurs as a big concern? He wont play against them for a start.

If, as is likely, Tezez and Aguero earn more than Adebayor, and Dzeko and Balotelli earns something similar, and Bellamy earns 95k a week, Man City must be spending more than 50 million quid a year on their strikers' wages alone, which is more than you get for winning the Champions League. They want to look as if they are meeting FFP and something in there is going to have to give. And Mancini probably doesn't think that Adebayor will be an asset to us.

What if it's true though? Another season of two metre Peter, Defoe & Pav! I don't know why we don't be a bit more realistic instead of flirting with these foreign based strikers and then keep getting embarrassingly slapped down. Why not try for Odemwingie & Hugo Rodallega?

I see this a lot. If Levy went out Day 1 of the window and bought Hugo Rodallega, there'd be a riot. If he does it on the last day, it won't be much better.

An Arsenal mate of mine claims that a well respected Scum ITK says that they're offering Bendnter and Cash for Rodwell, Jagielka is a smokescreen. Also says that Spurs have made enquiries too.

I think we all appreciate the ambition Levy is attempting to show, however last summer was the time to be going after the calibre of players such as Rossi, Llorente etc when we had the carrot of CL football to dangle infront of our wage structure

At least if we signed a realistic target such as Osvaldo or even Rodellega at the beginning of the window, they would have preseason to settle in build up understanding

Of course, I won't be complaining if Levy pulls a rabbitt out of the hat on deadline day :D

Steal our famous 'smoke-screen' will they? They will be after our 'publicity exercise' next

Maybe it's just time for our current strikers to step up to the plate and do what they did before and get us back into the CL. They can't do any worse than they did last year can they and even then our defence can take some of the blame for losing us points.

So Arsenal want to offer Bentner + cash for Rodwell

I believe that we have ITK that we've offered Crouch + cash for Rodwell

Seems oddly similar

I was just about to post something like this. The longer it gets, the more I am trying to prepare myself for the possibility of not bringing in any strikers. Let's try and look at the positives, the strikers we have are all international strikers, we know they are capable of brilliance (Pav/Defoe especially). We have the best midfield in the prem in my opinion, if our strikers do pull some form out the air (which they are capable of) then we can still score plenty of goals (2 years ago proved that) with the excellent service our midfield provides.

A season or two ago I'd have wanted to hang on to JD just as much as some of the players I fear losing this season, hopefully that same brilliant player can emerge if we end up relying on him.
