They may want but they are contracted. Sorry, everyone in your workplace might earn the same amount but i know full well where i work that i earn a lot less than some others doing the same job. I cannot go and demand more or stop working as i am a contracted employee. So are footballers. I think we put too much on the fact that they will all kick up a fuss, it is media fueled reasoning.

It really isn't. It's agent fuelled reasoning and it's a genuine concern.

Ask Arsenal fans if Samir Nasri's contract makes an ounce of difference at the moment.

Levy really holds us back big time with his pursuit of getting the cheapest possible deal.

some say its great business YES when it works but 90% of the time it doesn't and it ends up costing us targets and pissing off other clubs and souring relations.

If Adebayor was given 180k don't you think modric, Bale and vdV might start expecting something similar to the circa 9m a year? Plus every new player we approach will use this as a benchmark. Offering those kind of wages is more than a simple sum, it sets a president.

True - not even Obama gets 180k a week.

I think that's true and it's clear we have been bidding for players. But it does feel like Levy always uses the 31st August as a deadline when the first game of the season should always be the date we're aiming for.

I agree, and the lates ITK does seem to make it look like we are waiting for the deadline again.

But we all know we have been bidding for players that Harry has seemed to be wanting, and they were big players, we just cant afford them and should now be getting in these under the radar players you taked about while still looking at the big signings to see if anything changes.

I dont blame Levy for not signing a striker, i would only blame him if we had not been making bids for them, and we have been.

I've just been reading that depressing ITK from yesterday saying that Levy is lining up deals to be done in the last week  . Here we go again. I caught a fair amount of flak on SpursOdyssey be suggesting that Levy judges/fires the managers on results, so why should he be any different?

I just wish we had a diplomatic negotiator (not a DoF or anything), who, after Harry identified the target and Levy fixed the financial limits, went in and did the deal.

A&C mentioned the 'lessons learned' ITK from previously. But we know from our hilarious 7pm Jan 31 bid for Charlie Adam that nothing has been learned.

I bet Gregor Rasiak will have his phone on come August 31 .

This whole thing smacks of indecisiveness, and basically poor preparation and planning.

We are not being run as a football club, where we identify clear targets/options to improve us, a budget we are willing to pay for them and then go out and buy them. We are instead willing to take whoever we may get at the end of the window because they are cheap/available.

This feels more akin to Del Boy & Rodney than a football club with top 4 aspirations.

The need for brinkmanship, rather than pay "over the odds" for a player has seen us fall out of the top 4 and is likely to see us struggle to compete at that level again.

Even the issue about shifting dead wood is all financial. If we wanted to cancel contracts or pay players off, we could.

I'm just too frustrated with the situation.

End of rant!

I wonder if these awful riots which are still ongoing will have any effect on us signing a player or not? I say this in terms of a player from abroad like Llorente or Rossi thinking, sod moving to London!! I'ts looking more and more likely that our game on Saturday will be canceled, Englands game on Wednsday will def be off!

BUT Nasri has 1 year remaining so can either go now or for nothing in May. Modric, Bale etc have 4,5 or 6 years at the club so can't force anything hence Modric being told he has to stay this summer.

I've now seen you post this exact same comment about 4 times .

There is no ITK that says any plays have been put off by the riots (a ludicrous suggestion anyway given that the players only spend about three hours a week (max) anywhere near the Tottenham area and the riots have not yet hit leafy Hertfordshire where they mostly live)

So, please, give it a rest!

Prior preparation prevents piss poor performance. Maybe this mantra should be emblazoned at the ground on sat. A list of targets, a budget and idea of price willing to pay, the selling club doesn't go for it? Move on, wouldn't be difficult to find players to upgrade our strikeforce

Why do you think Nasri has one year left? He's known there is more money elsewhere so hasn't signed a new contract with Arsenal.

If players know there is more money within their own club they will immediately clamour for more and if they don't get it they'll agitate to leave.

Modric hasn't left this Summer but the antics surrounding him haven't helped the club at all. If you out someone on 150k in our squad then Modric won't be the only one doing this next Summer.

I got a text from a Spurs fan late last night saying we'd signed Italian striker Robertelli. I genuinely checked SSN and here and couldn't find anything. It then dawned on me it was a joke and I was being ultra slow :)

Why aren't you out there, lazy arse?

i would say if it's true that we are still submitting bids for Rossi that there is a chance he'll come, i personally don't beleive we'd try this hard for something that didn't have a decent chance... IF its ture we're bidding.

It's not a plus point though is it? you don't need ITK to have empathy with a point of view. If i were brittish and had an option to move to paris but around the time i had a decison to make, there were riots in Paris, it would have a barring.

Don't pile into folks who think about stuff.

That's just rampant speculation though isn't it? We could have signed a striker in January and they'd have had the same impact as Torres or Dzeko did. What cost us top four last year was results on the pitch, failing to beat Blackpool, West Ham, West Brom et al.

I know we've all worked ourselves up into a state whereby we'll cry if we don't sign a new striker, but there is no guarantee that a new signing will be a success.

Told you all not to get carried away with the Diarra ITK. As I said, I doubt he will sign for us, unless RM lower the price tag.

I'm starting to get really hacked off now. I know its not easy but this quest for a striker has been going on for too long now and if we are putting all our eggs in the one basket hoping that we are going to strike a value deal at the eleventh hour, well I just think thats shambolic, I really do.

The chances of us having no clear upgrade in that department is getting higher with every passing day.

Nothing on out goings yet either....Eek
