im sure well offload a few next week, which should (i stress 'should') free up funds for new acquisitions.

thats the key to all this imo. Levy is first and foremost a businessman and he wont be prepared to have players who cant play sitting on our wage books. When these players go and we have positions free then i am sure replacements will come in ie Diarra will come in for Palacios etc.

have you just forgot the last 20 years of spurs history or something :)!

This is the best spurs side we have had in my life time. Some people have just been spoilt by the last few years of overachieving (in terms of wages we are seventh) the last few years.

And that my friend is precisely the reason everyone is getting so frustrated. We have some truly world class players for the first time in a long time, and the basis of a team that could be challenging for the title. But we don't seem to be able to push it to the next level, which is truly disappointing.

So what's happened today everything's dried up?

Even Steve has dried up with his daily updates

I've got a question too - what does POTL stand for?

So far I came up with Prick of the Lane, Pe**s of the Lane, Puta*g of the Lane and Wind Up Merchant.

Care to explain?

Here's a question for you, can you read the fekkin rules!

If wages are the stumbling block we should be looking at bringing in talented less established younger players.

And considering we clearly had nobody realistic lined up, the Suarez cockup is looking like even more of a massive cockup. Yes it's boring to keep bringing it up, but the more this issue goes on, the more perplexing a decision it seems.

And yet another question that may as well be posted up in A&Cs roundup every mornin - How in the good name of fuck was the Suarez thing a cockup? What has he done nothing so far to make me think "oh shit, we really missed out there"

This the whole point of the doom and gloom on here is that the last two windows we have needed to show some intent (Champ league and to show Modric "Ambition)

And we have done pretty much fuck all.

That is worrying

Mike also said this:

This could all change. You know what we're like. Harry did say we're looking for marquee signings before August 31st.

So it's not all bad.

In terms of signings he's very, very frustrated and wages have been a stumbling block for every potential deal. Sorry to give you bad news.

@Mike_THFC Mike Bridge
@Football_Agent9 Was at Spurs today. Palacios will not leave.

You must not have seen many of Liverpool's games post-january last season, because generally he was very very good. A young striker with bags of potential who scores goals and contributes to team play for what is in today's market, a very reasonable price. You're kidding yourself if you don't think that was a cockup. We certainly won't get anyone as good as him for that price.

Wonder what players we have actually gone for and had problems with wages. that suggests we managed to agree fees in the first place. Mata maybe. Possibly adebayor

What was the name of that meeting at the start of the summer where Levy met with some fans and answered questions on certain topics?

I think the club refer to it as the "Convince the mugs to buy season tickets by making promises we won't keep" meeting ;-)

What we need is some really positive ITK....but we can't make it appear out of thin air, so lets pray we get some soon.

I think its natural for people to be frustrated, if Harry is its certainly ok for the fans to be - but bear in mind we don't have the true information and the window has 3 weeks to run.

We have a fabulous squad and one last push to improve it could see us back in the CL and keeping our top players for the future.

I don't think that's being spoilt, just desperate for your Club to do well - but there has to be an understanding and appreciation of what the Club's position is in relation to achieving such investment to make that step up.

In short we have to trust Levy's judgement.

Good post for the most part. I'm happy to trust Levy's judgement in the sense that he will do all he can for us within our means, but maybe that isn't going to be good enough?

The next couple of weeks will show us whether Levy is prepared to to take a gamble and pay big. I personally think it's probably more likely than not that he won't, but I'd be pleased to be proved wrong. I think we'll definitely bring someone in, if only just for the sake of it. A bit like our attempt to sign Adam at the end of the last window.

It's not just the wages of our targets that is a problem, it's the wages of our current players that we are trying to sell too. They don't want to take a paycut to leave to go to Blackburn, Stoke, Newcastle, etc, just like Adebayor or RM players want to take a paycut to come to us.

The likes of Crouch, Bentley, Keane, Defoe, and Jenas are probably all on around 45-60K a week (Palacios and Hutton maybe 30ish?), and it's tough for smaller clubs to afford that, especially given most of them are at/near the 30 year mark and they haven't been performing well recently. Given that the players also have to give up London, it'd probably take increased wages to tempt them into leaving too.

We're part of a shrinking middle class in football so it's tough to attract the stars, who all want to go to the handful at the obscenely rich clubs where they can make 2-3 times the money, yet we can't sell our average players to most other clubs because they are dirt-poor. It's also difficult to pick off upgrades from small clubs who WOULD want to come to us because those clubs are now expecting the exorbitant transfer fees being paid by the likes of Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and now PSG and to a lesser extent, Malaga.

Yeah for sure, its the wages of players we are trying to shift - its going to be a problem.

I agree to an extent but due to fair play rules and just the reality of a risk adverse financial system, ALL clubs are reducing wages, putting stadia on hold, shortening contracts, reducing overheads. If you don't have a bottomless pit benefactor, CL income (even then if you're the ar&e) or have a bloated squad it hits you harder. And we're all of those things. Trying to shift overpaid excess players and trying to improve with a smaller budget than before youre in trouble

To an extent I blame HR. Good buys but collects players like air miles. Should have trimmed the squad long ago. Uses a small nucleus of players but has a massive squad. Come on Harry, you should have let some go earlier and kept your fingers out of the till occasionally when we actually had excess cash

We need to make every penny count this window, and can't have a squad of 30. Hence the delays

What I saw was indeed a young striker with bags of potential, but whose end product wasn't great and would not have complimented our system particularly well. Would he have been better than the dross we had/still have, yes. But you are kidding yourself if you think he would have been the answer to all our prayers. He would arguably have improved us, but it was not a cockup of epic proportions.

What we need is some really good actual action not ITK. If even one tenth of the really good itk excitement had resulted in players we'd be fine.

Oh well no new signings then hope jd,pav, crouch start scoring

And sorry luka for not matching your ambition and trying to convince you to stay!

That's the big thing for me, we can't blame Luka for wanting to leave if irrespective of what the club have said, we can't match his ambitions. To come out with that then stand still while all those around us strengthen shows that we except finishing 4th was a one off.
