Tip what balance? Friedel was free and we've not really let anyone of note of the deadwood go...not to mention the sums we've paid recently for players that was far less than their value or far less that what they'd now be worth (Sandro, Modric, Bale, Walker, Kranjcar, Pienaar, Kaboul, Lennon...not to mention the quality we've got in for free in Gallas and Friedel). The balance seems pretty decent one way, even when weighed against (prospective) losses on the Keanes, Huttons, Pavs (I hate him) and Bentleys. We've made money on most of our transfers out for a good while now...it's not going to tip any balance IMO.
Will that £2m-£3m really bring us the marquee signing to show ambition? Fucked if it's looking that way at the minute!

Our profit figure (very loose look at the Financial Statements) was £22.4m for the y/e 30 June 2010.
Your economies of scale are all over the place. Which is why you don't run a football club.

I don't think our signings need to be "world class", just improvements on areas that have obviously needed improving for some time now.
The frustration is born due to us seemingly being unprepared again, or maybe even aiming at unrealistic targets.
We all know the status of the club but not being able to compete on the some level as City etc, is no excuse for not having made any signings yet.
Surely the management have identified "getable" targets?
You can't blame folk for being jittery, especially because of the last window or two.
I still have faith...but it's not as resolute as it was a week or so ago.

I have already told my source that Jenas is a much better option in CM than Modric.

What you're advocating is adding 33% on to the value of a player just to get him in early. You are then similarly saying we should accept less than players are worth when selling them.
No doing that on Diarra won't bankrupt us. Yes doing it on all players would. It's the same with regards to wages. Yes we can make our wage structure more flexible, no that doesn't mean we can offer players over 100k a week. Yes we can accept less for some players but no we shouldn't be doing it for all of them.
I accept the point that we messed up the transfer window in January. I don't think many people dispute that. But that's no reason to go gung-ho this window and throw financial caution to the wind.
Remember that Levy's 'frugality' with his wallet (ridiculous when you think how much we've actually spent) is what got us into the Champions League. Forgetting that is a severe case of short term memory loss.
