How significant is it that Luka Modric is still a Spurs player?

Should we have got rid?

Are you glad Daniel Levy stuck by his word? Or was this ultimately what ruined our pre season/transfer window?

My money is on seeing a completely different Modric now. The old one.

Thoughts guys?

Never had a moments doubt, looking forward to going to the pub Saturday to collect my winnings on Modric staying.

He made an unequivocal statement that would be impossible to budge from so it was never an issue.

I really thought that when he stuck to his guns over Modric he was doing it as a statement of intent and ambition. With our incomings (or lack of) it now just looks like sheer bloody mindedness. I'm glad we didn't roll over for those Chav ****s though.

Yeah I am glad.

€40m is a lot of money but after Carrick and Berbatov we had to make a stand.

Still would not be surprised to see him go in January though.

Think its a pity we didnt make a few real quality signings to clearly show intent because as pablo alluded to we come out of this looking like a small upstart being stubborn rather than a club who doesnt want to sell to potential competition.

brilliant work by Levy. Will further pay off when Modric starts turning it on and I firmly believe he will.

This is the key. If Modric knuckles down and performs as we know he can then this will have been a brilliant effort from Levy.

If he sulks and doesn't play to his best then it doesn't look good.

Time will tell I suppose.

I think i have £30 to pick up from a various number of United and Chelsea fans!

Guess we'll see this autumn how important it was to keep Modric. If he doesn't play to his full potential we would probably have been better off letting him leave earlier in the window and securing a replacement for him. But if he plays to his full potential than he will continue to be vital to the club.

If we can get over the Modric Saga we will have a strong team, there's no doubt about it. We've signed a world class striker, a good keeper and Parker is a leader full of grit. Falque is unproven but hopefully he'll turn out to be a good signing and after the smashing of Inter, it seems like we've got a pretty good future ahead of us.

There is only one dick in this scenario though. Surely he wouldn't hurt his career doing that

He wouldn't necessarily be consciously doing it but if his head is elsewhere then he won't play to his best.

Hopefully though Harry can get into him and let him see that there is no reason now for him to focus on anything other than Spurs.

We’ve gained far more than we’ve lost by keeping hold of Lucre Modric. It’s all very well people on here frothing at the mouth because we haven’t spent like a ‘top 4 club’, but what message would it have sent out if we’d sold our best player? You know, like you’d expect from a mid-table club, like we used to, like the bad old days.

As our manager says, the saga has slaughtered the build-up to our season. But by not capitulating Levy has sent a message to the two ‘vanity’ projects and Manchester United, and that is that no longer will we be treated as the poor little feeder club of choice. Too often in the past we’ve said ‘no’, when really we knew and everyone else knew we actually meant ‘yes’ – it was always just a matter of pushing the transfer fee up a bit.

Modric knew what he was doing when he threatened strike action against Man City, and why wouldn’t he? After all, he saw the outcome when Berbatov did it successfully a few seasons back. He thought we’d bend, just like last time and the time before that.

And if we’d succumbed this time, as per usual, every shiny bright young player at the club will know just what to do when agents start whispering in their ear.

Because of Levy’s actions at least when we say no in future, everyone will know he means it – and the vultures will move on to new prey.

And don't forget how £40m can fritter away. We didn't exactly spend the Berbatov money well. Nor have Arsenal.

Much better the devil you know, than start again with a sack of cash.

I understand the point of view of those that say the Levy stood tall and kept his word.
Truth is he backed himself into a corner and left himself with no options.
Never a good negotiating tactic.

Modric is with us physically but his head is at Stamford Bridge.

If £40 million was offered, which I doubt, then we have missed the chance to rebuild the squad. We are a striker short still and have an on loan player who may not deliver the goods.

I love Modric but he will never again be the same player for us.

I'm glad he is still with us, he is a fantastic player and very important to the team. Lets hope he gets on with it and starts performing. Personally I'm reasonably happy with this transfer window and think the team is stronger now.
