Surely now after the signing of players like Friedel and Parker who most of the usual suspects were gnashing their teeth about you can see why Harry wants consistent players with leadership qualities?

For us now IMO Samba > Alex, despite the apparent footballing crime of not being Brazilian or playing for a big club.

Absolutely - I think that while lots are rightly thinking that Caulker is a great prospect, Ajax chap has the potential to be great etc, the NOW part is key.

While those that rightly argued that Parker and Friedel etc aren't going to be the face of Spurs in 5 years, it is exactly these players that have taken us to third, looking up, today.

For me, Samba represents a very solid potential signing, and one that most would agree could hit the ground running and possibly make the difference over the course of the next 4-5 months. While I agree that future superstars are also great and exciting signings, we should take acount of where we stand. This is the best chance we've had for a while of doing something great, and a signing for now, today, might be just what we need to take us over the line

My 2 pence anyhow

Alex is Chelsea's best defender imo (bar maybe Terry), Chelsea's defence have looked best when he's there. However for some reason Luiz is rated ahead of him. Alex'd a much, much better signing than Samba.

Khumalo!!!!!
I had forgotten all about him

I don't blame you

Well considering that Gomes, Bassong, GDS and Pav are in our 25 man squad, that's four right there if you want to improve in those positions.

It's not an excuse. It's a fact. Just because some impatient fans want signings all the time doesn't make it any less of a fact.

I'm not impatient - again, I don't really mind if we don't add to our squad. Just grates me that we've heard the same thing every window for about two years now when we have been removing players.

Alex is too slow, which is why he isn't trusted to play with Terry. He might be alright with a rapid player next too him, but he gets caught out for pace a lot

Samba has the turning circle of an oil tanker and isn't the fastest either though. Basically his biggest asset is being slightly bigger than a house. Not trying to criticize, just saying. I rate them both, but I'd prefer Alex just a bit more.

Samba is quick though. Also he offers something different than any of our current crop. I'm not sure you could say Alex particularly does that.

If we end up with Samba its because he was cheap and our scouting isn't good enough to come up with anything better.

No way in hell does Chris Samba resemble anything that looks like a Spurs player.

We could do with someone who could actually score from a corner.

But he won't because (despite our dearth of ball playing ability right across the midfield) no one is a capable of taking a frigging corner :bang:

Samba scores 2-4 goals a season, is that a big enough bonus to make up for his weaknesses? I think goals from a CB are a bonus, the defending side of the player is all important.

Anyone think that there is still a chance with Cahill? Keep seeing people saying on Twitter saying deal almost done with Chelsea etc but still nothing has been annouced. IMO would not be suprised if we were doing some work behind the scenes on this one!

I see the same posters who criticised Harry and our scouting network for pursuing Parker are out in full force again over Samba. Trust Harry

there is so much misinformation flying around at this time of the season, you just need to ignore 99% of it. Whatever happens happens. I'm confident the club is doing all it can to sign the players we all want and in the event it can't, players who can still do a job for us, even though they're not what we would all consider dream signings.

Hence, keep the faith.......lol, if you can. :hump:

I remember the arguments when we were linked with Parker. Loads complain!
I remember the moans and groans when we signed Friedel!
Today both are important players in our team.
If Harry wants Samba, then i prefer his judgment.
I think Samba will do well for us!
I personally believe that Harry rates Cahill over Samba, but that deal is nearly done with Chelsea now, so its Samba. He's PL proven, good defender and can score.
I told you about Samba and Remy.
It could also be Becks?

Having been a critic of Arry's signing in the summer, and since realised that I know fuck all about transfer targets and their merits, shall now no longer pretend that I know if player X is better than player Y.

Arry, it's over to you.

IMO the very reason why we didn't sign Cahill on deadline day is because Chelsea got on the phone to him and said wait for us and you wil get x£.

What an absolute risculous assessment of our current and potential CBs.
King is a crock and will be lucky to play 15 games in any season. Will probabaly have retired in 2. Gallas is over the hill. Great leadership and experience, but ability wise we can do much better. Kaboul is our most promising CB at present and over the next year or two will be first choice for sure. Dawson is very good while not outstanding. Lacks pace, but brilliant facing the game and exceptionally good in the air defensively. Caulker, as yet, is an unknown quantity. Promising, but not ready for us yet. Needs some more cooking.
Samba is currently better than Caulker, Dawson, Gallas. May well be as good as Kaboul. If he signs he will get plenty of game time. We need a settled back 4 to be successful. Kaboul and Samba could be that settled partnership, with Dawson pushing all the way for a starting berth.

Samba would be a very helpful addition to the core of our side. We all worry so much about a potnetial Dawson/Bassong partnership. Would anyone worry about a Samba/Dawson Samba/Kaboul partnership ion the same way? Doubt it.

How is Caulker a unknown quantity? he has played half of swansea's games and has been brilliant for them, if he stays injury free for the rest of the season he will reach 100 league games by the age of 20, that kind of experience for a CB is insane and even Harry has stated that next season he has big plans for him,

he wouldn't say that if he was going to be backup to 5 CB's he will be used like jones is at united, except unlike jones, caulker is and always has been a CB,

Also Caulker is rated by alot of swansea fans one of the first names on the team sheet and is considered one of the calm heads in the defence with the other players playing better around him

One more point some swansea and bristol city fans expect him to be a england regular by the world cup

I also disagree that Samba is better than Dawson and Gallas, Samba was also not as good as Caulker at the same age
