So .....

Still no Vertonghen or anyone else come to that
Still lots of deadwood kicking about
Still 'Arry in charge

Thought we were doing our business early this year before Euro's? (1 week to go to KO mind most the players will be there in a few days time).

This could be a very long window with our normal last day attempts IMHO

There is enough indication to suggest we are moving early to secure targets and move others on, doesn't mean you succeed, but the club is clearly trying.

Come sense would tell you H will stay. Ancelloti was our first choice. Gone. Rodgers was then our main aim. Gone too.
Next summer all of Pep, Jose and Ancelloti could become available. Those are 3 top, top managers. Could we attract one of them? Is it possible that H will stay, get us top 4 then move on and be replace by one of these? Yes its possible and sensible.

But I still think stupidly, H is gone :)

This would be my preferred option.
Keep HR for one season for sure, see if Mourinho or Pep are willing and if so make a move, if not, keep HR depending on results.

My problem with Martinez is how come he can only get Wigan to play towards the end of the season.

Surely the best strategy is Harry for the first half of the season, then bring in Martinez and we will win the league. Simples.

Also talking on managers - Riandor is right that Pep has been incredible at Barcelona but he has had the luxury of the best players in the world, but you can't doubt the job he did getting them to play in a system and the work rate he got from them.

AVB's achievements should not be undermined, winning the Europa League is not easy and his side didn't just win the league they did it without losing. AGain AVB had the benefit one possibly the best scouting network in Europe.

As I mentioned before, Rijkaard. Did a great job at Barcelona setting everything in place for Pep. To this day I still say I liked that first season under Pep as it mixed the directness of Rijkaard's team and the work rate and intricacies that would define Pep's team.

Wow nothing like an early panic. There are three months of the window still let's at least see how the first one goes before we worry too much for the sanity of everyone.

Hardly early panic this year as the next 5 weeks will be pretty dead due to the Euros

Lot of ITK's were say early business, just ain't going to happen

Just being realistic

AVB intrigues me as I'm sure he's got more to offer than what was shown at Chelsea, which was a job that very few could do imo. It's all down to the chav clique that seem to run the dressing room.
Saying that, he's still a risk and I'm not sure that we can afford to be taking risks - Fuck this season up, and we stand to lose a lot of ground to those around us.

Trouble is, who's out there that would suit? I'm not overly convinced that any of the suspects mentioned so far are right for us (well, the realistic one's).
What about someone leftfield like Bilic or Jurgen? I think DL fancies a younger, more forward thinking manager, to match the clubs coming period of growth.

POTL on COYS re Harry

The only thing Harry wants is a new contact now the England job didnt go his way. His Agent is trying to sort something out with Daniel at the moment. Not much progress so far, but that is where 2+2=5.

AVB is my choice, if the best manager of his generation (Jose) recommends him to us then that's good enough for me, he could have recommended Rodgers and Rodgers was still Swansea manager when Jose recommended AVB, but if AVB is scouting players from Brazil that would suggest that he has a job lined up in Spain or Portugal

Capello, no just no, good manager but appalling English and made no effort to learn it

You can't turn your nose up at Capello imo. I disagreed with a lot of what he did with England, but his club record speaks for itself. If Harry goes he is who we should be looking at I think.

I disagree, I think Chelsea's poltics made the situation very challenging, but AVB looked completely out of depth there. Whilst we are a very different animal to them, this is still a very challenging job, different in so many ways to working in Portugal. I would like to see him rebuild his confidence and gain more experience before being considered for a job with us.

Amazing really. 3 months ago if we offered him massive money and a new contract he wouldn't have signed. Now it's all changed. I really don't know what I want to happen. Harry has been good for us, but he would have left us in a heartbeat.
He would have left us, but it wasn't about money, or rating another club above us, the England job had an enormous emotional pull for him, I don't think that should be held against him.
