I guessed the first signing would be made on July 2nd, so you're all going to have to wait a while yet ;)

Well I said July 1st, which I later realised was a flipping Sunday.
But nah, I think we're both wrong, I think he will sign before hand, officially complete on the 2nd.

This of course brings in to play the slight risk that he has a stormer in front of all of the Premier League's watching managers/scouts - not that they won't know about him already - and another club steams in, prepared to pay exactly what Ajax are asking up front, with no mucking about, and offer Vertonghen a hefty wage and signing on fee, thus blowing us out of the water and leaving it to Vertonghen's goodwill to demand to be allowed to join us instead.

Well you are just a ray of sunshine

Thats how I see it.

More intrigued by the idea that we dont want to offer him a new contract.

Surely there must be some doubt over him with how the second half of the season went, if we start the first half of next season with the same overall form then we'll be in a relegation battle come Christmas and that must be playing on DL's mind.

Also the fact that this dip in form was obviously due to the England speculation - what happens if speculation occurs again this coming season - be it England, Chelsea, Qatar or whatever...

It's also possible that the Belgian squad commits collective suicide, due to unacceptably long queues at British customs. On the bright side, Vert won't have signed, so we won't lose any money. Hazard will have signed, so Chelsea WILL lose money. I can't be any more optimistic than that. Wheel me back in, Nurse Ratched. Time for my ECT.

There are very few managers to take us forward that is the problem!

Disagree with this.

I think the level of squad we have is excellent and with some investment this summer and moving on of deadweight we have a squad capable of challenging for the PL title with the right manager in place.

What Harry has achieved with our squad is commendable, but no less than should be expected of him.

With our new training facility in place too then there comes a point when i think you have to say that there are probably a few managers out there who have the potential to get more from us over an entire season.

None of you are taking this seriously enough. 90 days. That's it, 90 days left. Go on, continue to bury your heads in the sand.

I expected more from you, greaves. I'm not angry. Just disappointed.

Plus it would be nice to have a manager that actually believes in the players rather than dismissing their efforts as 'over-achieving'.

Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love us to sign Vertonghen, in fact more than any other of the players we've been linked with this summer. I just don't feel complacent that it's all signed and sealed yet. Personally I wouldn't leave the club I've grown up at, won the league with and captained to sign a four or five-year contract at a new club, who aren't in the Champions League IF they were still in the process of deciding whether to remove their manager and replace him with someone else. Of course, I don't know if that is happening, but there have been enough murmurs from those supposedly in the know to suggest that this could be occurring. As a player, that would worry the hell out of me, and prevent me from committing until I knew.

And then says that our season finish is the best that we can expect.
I'm not a Harry hater, but he gets more credit than he deserves from some IMO.
