for bale to have signed a new 4 year deal, he must have had serious talks with levy and must know who the manager is, what their plan is, who were signing, plans for the future etc and be happy with that.

it can only mean good things to come in my view

What had Guti ever done before playing for Madrid! I think it's more about what you do in the shirt than before. He is easily good enough to play for Madrid, I just wish he didn't realise that and wanted to play for us forever!

Or Levy said sign a new contract which will enable Spurs to demand £40m+ and promise to sell hin next season if we don't qualify for CL.

Hmmm not sure what Guti is trying to say with the "not even the main man at Tottenham". Yes I agree with him on that but if clubs were only signing players who were the main man, there wouldn't be many players to go around, 11 players make a team, not 1. (Although don't tell Ronaldo).

Modric is a class player, anyone can see that, it doesn't matter what he has done before, it's what he can do full stop, he can find space like world class players do, Alonso, Ozil, Khedira and Modric, amazing line up, not sure what combination they will go for but Modric would fit in well for them.

Having said that if we could keep him then great, I DON'T want to see him playing for City, Chelsea or United, we are close to gaining on these, why strengthen them.

Before Madrid he was at Madrid and before that he was still at Madrid. Inbetween had a few games for Spain.

My one query would be, if we're getting in this investment potentially which is allowing us to push 100k/week for Bale, and we've heard Modric primarily wanted a move for money, is there no latitude for offering him a big old deal to stay? Presumably its still not enough to keep him here..or we don't want to keep him here any more if a similar player is arriving as has been hinted at?

What happens every time he's sent out on loan? Struggles to get games at lower level. Don't get me wrong... He's ok! But if we're looking to build a strong squad that we can rotate and challenge for top 4, then Townsend is not good enough!

this.

I think people get all romantic because he is one of ours. If he didn't come through our academy I doubt most spurs supporters would even know his name.

Has he?

Well I would certainly say modric has been the main man for us over the last few years.

As to whether he'd break into the Madrid side - I dont know - but he certainly has the ability.

Was Alonso much better than Modric when he left Liverlol?

Maybe. But not by much.
How many goals or assists has our main man had in the last few years!?
Liverpool fell apart and have never been the same since alonso left!

Played for Madrid C, got promoted to Madrid B, then got promoted to go train with the big boys. It's like being at school and starting out with all the kids who kick a ball and fall over whilst attempting it and then getting in with all the cool kids.

Yes. I was trying to say, although it might not be as evident in the post as I wanted, that there was more to the wages than looking strictly at an end value. That was one I missed. But my point is that we are still being labelled as paying 91 million. I doubt we are, although we are probably still trending high to get back into the UCL. However that 91m from that 2011 data is the source number for the papers and where they are coming up with this 70k/wk number that is being used so often. They are just being overly lazy and saying 91m divided by 25 players divided by 52 weeks equals 70k/wk. The math is that straight forward.

Erm, it's maths old bean, maths.
