Probably emergency cover with view to coaching role. He won't play instead of Caulker I wouldn't have thought.

I can't imagine it's going to be very cost effective as emergency cover. Bet he demands a fair wage

How many great players of the last 20 years have been great coaches / managers?

Most of them have been fucking disasters, whereas the likes of Wenger, Ferguson, Mourinho hardly had distinguished playing careers

First time you hear them speak, you can tell that Wenger and Mourinho are both highly articulate, intellectuals in football terms, with a strong footballing "philosophy". A model that AVB clearly aspires to.

Ferguson is a monster Alpha Dog personality (but not that astute tactically hence his number twos). I've never been impressed when I've heard Freund interviewed. Sherwood on the other hand does come over pretty well, and is clearly a driven character - like Mourinho, Ferguson and Arsewipe.

Anyway, if Freund is AVB's choice, so be it, and his passion for Spurs is a good thing. As long as he's not in charge of shooting practice.....

As for the other ITK, I wonder what the price is for Moutinho, and how much of any Modric fee it'll eat up.

Some great ITK tonight, I love the fact that Freund will be coming back to the club.

I agree but with Gallas and King on the way out an experienced head is quite logical. Think it's also a case of him and Villas-Boas knowing each other - friendly face in dressing room etc.

On the strikers front, currently we have one senior out and out CF on our books, Defoe, but rumours suggest he may be off to Reading. Other ITK say Adebayor is only days away from being announced, but that would still only give us two strikers (one if Defoe goes). So I would expect at least one more forward, maybe two...

Lloris, Vertonghen, Sigurdsson, Moutinho and Adebayor.... All look very very likely, so good summer really. But since I'm anticipating at least one more striker, exciting times ahead.

I would be over the moon if we could land Sturridge and Remy. Would give us tons of versatility up front as they can both play forward or on the wing. We certainly need another striker and winger.

I guess it is important to have an old head at times if we are losing Gallas and King.......I was hoping for others from RM in the Modric deal to be honest!!

Thank god we didnt spunk all this cash when Harry was in charge. We'd be sitting with a teams of pensioners right now.

Good work so far DL, I knew I was right in trusting you

QED, the reason why DL kept 'arry on a very tight leash.

Regarding Carvalho, I just don't get why we would want him in as a player. If we want a veteran defender around the place then we might as well hold onto Gallas no? That's not to mention that Ledley will be on coaching duties. Feels like Carvalho would be just another body getting in the way of Caulker's game time (certainly if Daws doesn't leave).

I typed up a post about why Adebayor would be so cheap. He's costing ManC £9m (more if that's his net) a year in wages. For a player who they haven't even got a squad place for. I still find it amazing tat Levy is doing this deal. The only way is if ManC are still going to pick up at least 70k and maybe 100k of his wages for the remainder of his contract (2 years I believe). He may well have said to City "I'm not going anywhere but spurs" and they realise it's either cough up another 18m for a player who will never play for them again, or cough up 7-10m to get him gone.

AVB will have worked with Carvalho at Chelsea. Apart from being a wiley old fox of a defender (although IMO he's way past his best) he'd also be AVB's dressing room capo as well maybe. A strong character, used to the EPL, iused to EPL players, who could be AVB's eyes and ears at ground level.

Yes, that's correct. £25m plus a potential £45m in wages for a player from whom they've had just one season. 'Insane' isn't quite the word. I'm pretty sure it's also been said that they have to offload him before they try to bring RvP in, which is another reason for the hurry and the willingness to write off millions. That still leaves them with Balotelli and Dzeko, one or both of whom must be surplus to requirements if RvP arrives, not to mention Rocket Roque.

It used to be so easy for me: just get my own surname on it. It was great. No thought needed. Didn't look too geeky.
Not any more.
Now I have to think carefully.
I can't wear my old shirts.
My surname is Campbell.
