Unfortunately even Ray Davies faltered a little at times.

Anyway, if the opening ceremony was 'Welcome to London' then large parts of the closing ceremony were 'Right you can all fuck off home now'. I initially thought Eric Idle had been forced to drop 'life's a piece of shit, when you look at it' but fortunately he didn't. I loved how it seemed that was the song most of the athletes knew the words to, that and Wonderwall (Noel must be pretty pissed off they got Liam and his new wank band to sing his song). I chuckled at Jessie J singing 'forget about the £9.3bn price tag', but whoever let her near Queen should be shot. Getting Matt Bellamy on We Will Rock You would have been a much better idea. And Boris did his button up this time.

Really not sure what wheeling out a bunch of supermodels was all about, though. It almost seemed a smack in the face after two weeks in which one of the most positive things to come out was an apparent change of attitude in looking at positive role models for young women in the number of female athletes excelling, and then at the end the chuck Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell in their faces. Well done, douchebag who orchestrated all that.

Didn't he sing, "music now is shit, when you look at it"? Or was I hearing things?

And that was another historic moment as I doubt anyone has ever sworn in an Olympic ceremony before and can't see it happening again anywhere.

Great Britain Nailed The Olympics 2012.

Frankly, regardless, please remember that fact above all.

I considered tonight's event as a whole, not individual aspects.

There's something in there we all would have loved and we all would have disliked.

For me it hasn't. As of tomorrow - once I've sobered up -I am going to utube the events I missed.

I think a special mention is in order for the 15th placed 'nation'...Yorkshire!

Ahead of Brazil & Spain & a few days ago were even placing higher than Australia, not bad for an ethnic minority, eh...? ;)

I loved the samba at the end too. Gonna miss these games hugely I must admit. All good things must come to an end but going to be difficult getting home from work tonight and having no live sport to watch. Been spoilt the last few weeks!

An amazing Olympic games. Being in the stadium, seeing Bolt, singing the national anthem in the Velodrome with Hoy after winning his 6th gold, the atmosphere at the beach volleyball, badminton and around the Olympic park. The fans at the road race and marathon, the BBC’s coverage, London. Things I will never forget for the rest of my life.

Even at 5pm on Saturday I know I’m still going to be thinking about the games.

Of course we can trick people into thinking the Olympics are still on by smiling, being polite to strangers and welcoming foreigners.

I'm sad it's over, and I was anti-Olympics before it began!
Really annoyed that I feel I let my kids down by not taking them to any events. Then again, with the high prices and the whole fiasco over ticket availability, it was probably a wise move.

As for the closing ceremony, the least said the better.
Oh the irony of Jessie J singing Price Tag, from the back of a new Rolls-Royce!

It's too easy to find faults and pick holes in the closing ceremony but, overall, it was fantastic as were the Games themselves. Nothing's perfect but it was more than good enough for me.

Waterloo Sunset HAD to be included and I was waiting for it, never mind if Ray Davies looks old and haggard (he is) and can't sing as well these days: he's a musical genius nevertheless. There were plenty of other ageing rock and pop stars who aren't what they once were and the absence of those who have left the stage for good was more than noticeable (to me anyway). The old man was quite happy leering at Jessie J's chassis and wasn't too bothered who she performed with.

The models were there to complement Bowie's Fashion and was just another aspect of British industry alongside a bit of glam rock.

Did anyone else get all emotional with wet eyes when they showed the footage of athletes crying?

Things feel flat this morning.

I loved it all.

I feel the same, my eldest daughter is 8 and doesn't live with me and her mum doesn't really encourage her to do sports and this would have been the perfect opportunity for me to get her inspired. It fell during the summer holidays too and she was getting excited after I took her to see the torch relay and then all the hype surrounding it.

I did try to get tickets initially when the first batch became available but then the website kept crashing and I didn't try again thinking that I wasn't actually that bothered. But once it came around I was gutted that I didn't try harder, especially as there were some £20 tickets knocking around. The olympics will more than likely not be held in London again in my life time.

Again i'll repeat i'm gutted i didn't go but I'm glad that overall the games was successful and I really do hope it inspires a generation.

Right, i'm of to find my nearest handball club!

A few afterthoughts, as there are bound to be:

I'd have loved the Stones to have been featured too, even if only on video footage, and am surprised Elton John wasn't there in an outrageous drag costume, although some of his music was noticeably present with The Who and Tommy.

Where was William? Kate and Harry looked very cosy sitting together again with a glaringly empty seat where our future king should very have been sitting. Was he somewhere else and I missed it and, if so, why was Kate not with him rather than Harry?

She's left him for Harry, the poor girl waited so long that Harry turned into the better looking brother so she's switched.
